He did the Tommy Haas correspondence course. doh

Seriously, it's bonkers that anyone, even if they are medically qualified, thinks they know more than the appropriately qualified experts who have seen Andy's medical files.

Yes, other top players have sometimes played through injury and won.  Andy's been playing with this back injury in some shape or form for a year and a half, so he's had his fair share of wins too.  There just happens to be a limit to how injured you can be and still win.  There is a point at which you are plain stupid to play.

Federer has to get to the RG finals to reclaim the #2 spot.  He'd have to get a good draw to manage that, but even if he does, I'd rather Andy loses the #2 spot, than is forced to withdraw from Wimbledon, or is hampered in his play.

The pressure is on Andy to win Wimbledon already.  He got to the finals last year, then won the Olympics there, and winning the US Open is just another reason the casual tennis fan will presume he just needs to turn up and not muck it up.  If anything, missing RG will reduce the pressure, as people might actually believe he is injured.  If he'd played, and struggled, people would just say the injury claims were just an excuse, and he needs to redeem himself on grass.

We've no idea how Andy will do on grass, but I'm glad he's not stupid enough to play for the sake of it, and will give himself the best chance of being fit for Wimbledon.
Someone on twitter claims this is proof that he's given up on improving on clay.

I'm fascinated as to how they came to that conclusion. In response they said 'it's a slam, the other 3 would play in the same situation'.

Incredible.

Can we send a message/facebook post-poster / or present (flowers?) to Andy?
"Get well, come back stronger" Ideas?

My "feeble" attempt ha ha

For Roland Garros you’ve taken a pass
Hopefully to make your return on grass
For us Murraysworld folks it won’t be the same
But to Wimbledon you’ll go to share your beautiful game

We all wish you well and hope you recover
To lift the Wimbledon crown without any bother
Our support you will have come what may
For you have already given us that “special day”.

Rest up, get well and come back even stronger
For we don’t want you missing for a moment longer
Us folks on Murraysworld all “have a dream”
That come July you’ll reign supreme.

Make sure you look after that back and take great care
For more special moments we all want to share
Tennis without Andy – doesn’t half lack
All of Murraysworld say “Haste ye Back”.

That is superb MM! hug  I know that somewhere on here there's a facility for sending messages to Andy, I think through his agent, so I'll PM Mark and ask him.

Oh dear - not a happy looking group of people.  Maybe Andy was still living in hope that he would be given the go-head. Frown

Guys - I PMd Mark about this and, while the normal way of sending messages to Andy is through Entertain 19, he said that if I emailed him with this message he would pass it onto his contact there asking her to pass it on to Andy.  This he has now done. Smile

^ Just so long as Andy receives it.  I'll bet he won't be short of messages of support and good wishes.  Still, I would hope a direct contact will do the trick.

Well done Aileen!

I think it's a brilliant idea-and,while I'm sure you're right about Andy not being short on good wishes,I'm sure that he'd be really touched by MM's fantastic poem.I don't think you can fail to have your spirits lifted by reading it,so fingers crossed he gets it! Smile

^ Actually I did this without MM's permission because Andy looks so miserable in these photos that I wanted to cheer him up as soon as possible (give him a huge hug really!), but I've PMd her and told her what I've done on behalf of all of us MWers just in case she doesn't read the thread.  I think she'll be pretty chuffed though.  I expect Andy'll get it OK because I understand that normally messages are filtered through by staff, something which will take time.
