We are not in possession of the all if any of the facts so we cannot compare this problem to any we have experience of.  Only Andy, his team and medics know what the problem is.  I am sure they will give him the best advice possible and then it is up to him.. Andy is highly intelligent and so I expect him to make a good decision.
This may have been posted elsewhere but it's from Andy's Facebook and dated 15 May -

"Had a hit with Dolgopolov on the clay in Rome yesterday, all is good, early to bed last night, 2nd up today against Granollers."

No hint of a problem there, so are we now looking a new injury or a sudden unexpected aggravation of an existing condition?  Also there are reports that the injury is to his hip and not his back.

All a bit confusing really - but I think Andy should forget about RG.  Given that a decision won't be made until Wednesday it isn't leaving him much time to prepare for RG, if he does decide to play, where he won't have the luxury of a R1 bye, and, quite frankly, the way things have been going recently, he's so lacking in match practice on clay anyway that an embarrassingly early exit could well be on the cards, so would it really be worth all the hassle and disappointment?  I know the decision is ultimately up to him, but that's just my own thoughts on the matter.

At least he's not going to be short of match practice before Wimbledon because, as well as Queens, he confirmed last week that he would be playing at The Hurlingham Club - http://www.bnpparibastennisclassic.com/world-no-2-andy-murray-confirmed-for-hurlingham/

But where and when seems to be the answer to that at the moment.  Nothing really can be deduced until we hear from Andy himself what the specialists have advised.

Of course Andy doesn't want to voluntarily miss a Slam, but there's no way he's going to play if medical advice is that by playng RG he's likely to aggravate whatever the problem is - and by doing so perhaps having to skip Queens and Wimbledon, which really would be frustrating and disappointing for him.  And also if he does miss Wimbledon he'll lose 1,200 ranking points.

Yes - RG and Wimbledon in 2007, although he had no option but do so on that occasion.

I'm probably doing a bit of straw clutching, but wouldn't the 'will playing RG aggravate things' decision already have been made on looking at the scan?  Maybe they just need more time to seek other opinions.

well it's encouraging that the scans haven't shown anything too bad but I hope he'll be taking specialist advice as to the advisability of possibly making it worse if he plays a series of 5-setters on clay.  Much as I'd like to see him at RG, he's not going to be able to prepare properly and his chances of going deep must be fairly slim given he's not had that much clay court match practice now and he's bound to be protecting his back, so I think it would be wiser not to chance it.  But I guess that's not Andy and if feels he can play, he will.
Thanks for starting the thread for all us anxious Andy fans batz.
How far does he need to go to defend his 350 points?

The QF.

I'm inclined to go with that as well especially as it's since been reported that Lendl still has his seat reserved on a flight to Paris on Wednesday, although obviously it's easier to cancel at the last minute than cancel and then try to book another convenient flight.

Goodness knows why Andy needs to see so many specialists though.  How many opinions does he want? - and it won't help either if they're conflicting.

Maybe he just wants to make sure he's as well-informed as he can be?

I know that when my mum has to make a big/tough decision, she usually does as much research about it as she possibly can first-it helps her to feel that well-researched and informed,to then go and make whatever decision it is.Perhaps Andy could be doing a similar thing? Shrug

I can understand that up to a point, but it isn't going to be helpful if opinions differ - which isn't that unusual, at  least in my experience.

I think he could make the final if he's in Fed's half.
Too many players who could beat him before he even gets to that stage, especially if he's not fit.
