great to have a French perspective on his choice Libany as you probably know more about her than many of us Brits do

Not sure how I feel about that, never having really taken much interest in the women's tennis, but I have seen some wonderful women's matches this last two weeks and have come to realise that the women's game now closely resembles the mens more than ever before, so I'm not too worried! At the moment, it's only for the grass season anyway! You never know.....she might surprise us!  Whistle

I watched women's tennis at that time and I did enjoy watching her.     She was a strong attacking player but suffered badly from nerves especially at the French Open which is understandable, given what the crowd is like.   Andy knows what he is doing - surprising partnership but all the best to them.

on the BBC website Andy talks about her tactical nous.   There's also an interview with Bollitieri (spelling?) who says it's time Andy was captain of his own ship and he sounded pretty positive about the prospect of a Mauresmo appointment (I think before it had been confirmed).  Well he was so very much so prior to Lendl. It will be interesting to see what the balance is in this new partnership

I would have preferred martina too bbh and we don't know if they ever talked.  But it may be that Amelie has more time to give Andy and she does have coaching experience and it sounds like she's been pretty good at it.  I really don't think Andy would have made such an unusual appointment without thinking about it very carefully and without talking it over with the likes of Cahill.

@Ruthie
She seems very different from Ivan temperamentally at least. Her face showed every emotion when Marianne was winning Wimbles. Am sure she's been involved with the French Fed  Cup team too?
Can't see her loving those practical jokes either...but who knows?

Good for Andy!
I knew he was open to a woman and we all had Martina on the radar so this was a surprise as it was a name not touted until she was spotted watching him play (which was then written off as she watched others, very good tactic that was lol)

Let's see what this adds -

Ruthie yes, I really Amelie can be a real asset for Andy thinks, she will understand and cope with his very side (too) emotional (itself suffered his hyper emotionalism during his career), which provide savvy advice (it was # 1 and won wimbledon) this young woman is highly respected in France by all French, she has great social skills, with the sports world, it is fed cup captain (as is Judy Murray in England) ... I am very optimistic about the quality of their relationship and finally I hope it will make him more often take the direction of the net!!

I just switched on Sky and have sen the news.
Dont know much about her game and style to express an worthwhile opinion. Has 2 Slams, 1. AO was a walk-over, 2.  Wimbledon 2006.

Not a long pedigree is it? However, I dont think that's very important and I would not presume to question Andy's and his teams judgement. They know more than me.

I'm sitting on the fence ATM.  Andy is certainly one not-conform to tradition.

I would have liked John McEnroe, but who knows if that would of worked?

@Ruthie
Yep. And she can travel too. Don't think she has any family commitments. I suspect that was probably a big consideration for Andy.
On the other thread.. lol, you also said Andy thinks she is a gr8 tactician. Also, forgot she coached Llodra so hope she gives lots of volleying encouragement.
Glad to see Libany's positive response too clap
We'll see how it goes. Good luck Amelie! cmon yeah Good luck Andy! yay

I think this is great, had thought he was going for a woman when he expressed the fact he would be open to one, we all had Martina on the radar for ages, but Amelie never came on mine!
I forgot she won Wimbledon and the AO - I think this will be great through this grass season as he has the titles to defend - also remember she will be giving insight, he still just has to play the game himself and she wont be the one on the court

@bbh yes if she can persuade Andy what a great volleyer he is and that he should use them there soft hands more, that would definitely be a plus.  And she's a great friend of Fabrice's (not that that has anything to do with the price of eggs I know  Whistle )
