MC R3: Andy Murray vs Stanislas Wawrinka

Quote

Having comfortably seen off France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Murray now faces an opponent with whom he is all too familiar and who secured an easy victory over Spain's Alberto Montanes.  The pair have only met twice on clay, the last time being in Rome in 2008 where Wawrinka won.  Murray leads 8-4 in their H2H but, apart from the London Olympics, their matches have never been easy ones, so this should be a good test to see just where Murray is with his clay-court game.

Wawrinka had a good win so it will be a tough match but andy shall prevail

Didn't realise that it's that long since they played on clay so that gives me some hope as I guess Andy has improved on clay more than Stan has since then?  But this could be a fairly brutal match and I suspect it will go to 3 sets.  Have voted for Andy but am feeling  nervous already.  3rd match seems like a good slot to have.

Stan's had a good amount of match practice on clay already. He played in Buenos Aires (beating Almagro in the semis and losing to Ferrer in 3 sets in the final), Acapulco (lost in his first match to Fognini), and Casablanca (lost to Robredo in the semis after winning the first set 6-1). He plays well on clay and seems comfortable on the surface.

I'm expecting him to push Andy, like he often does against the top players when he's playing well. But he also has a tendency to get nervous when matches are tight, especially against higher-ranked players. It could go to 3 sets but I think Andy's playing well enough to win this match.

They last played on Clay 5 years ago. I don't think we should judge on that result. Lets go Andy!  yay

That's what worries me a little, but I felt that today Andy, for the first time, looked as though he belonged on clay.  Comfortable, relaxed and moving very well.

I've gone for Andy in 3, but, like all their matches, apart from the Olympics, I'm expecting it to be a nail-biting rollercoaster ride.
