Must admit that I'm not a Sampras lover either and though Pistol Pete denied Timmy twice at Wimbledon, it's Goran's victory that sticks most in my mind as being in the path of a Brit Grand Slam trophy.

I'm not sure who I'd choose after Andy but Johnny Mac has to be right up there, tantrums and all yes

Anyway, I hope I'm more successful taping Andy's match in the morning than I was setting the vcr for House tonight (set the timer but forgot to turn it off Embarassed )

Scheduling today seems a bit odd. Isn't there a chance that Andy will still be playing when Nadal starts? I wonder why Berdych was put 1st on Stadium, not Andy.

Maybe because Raonic and Anderson were playing in the dubs late yesterday - having had to wait for Anderson to recover from his singles vs Querrey.

Hope Andy doesn't allow himself to be distracted by any talk of an 'ankle injury'  He needs to be totally focussed and firing on all cylinders from the first point. Good luck Andy.

He'll also have to get used to the different conditions of the Grandstand court, as well as getting a handle on Raonic's game for the first time. Fingers crossed.

I can understand you Brits not liking Sampras, he kept your Timmy from winning a slam. However if Andy had Pete's serve, I doubt you would think him boring. And as far as that being all Pete could do you obviously didn't really watch him play. His running forehand, his net play, his air Sampras were awesome!  His backhand was also great although that was his weakest shot. Andre was a showman who took meth while on the pro tour and lied to usta about it. Yes he's a real role model..not!

Don't look past raonic thinking he's injured Andy. Go out there like he's fit and ready to serve you off the court and bring your A game. Good luck Andy.
I agree with you Pete was a fantastic player, and I was a fan. However, I never warmed to the Fed for some reason!

Andy always seems to get the raw end of the deal as far as scheduling is concerned - maybe because he doesn't make a fuss.

I thought sky would have shown highlights of Andy's first match. No such luck.

Seemingly the match wasn't recorded.

i agree with you.  Distractions of this kind he does not need but I think he has enough experience to be able to handle this and having Lendl with him will help.  I just hope Raonic makes up his mind sooner rather than later whether he's able to play or not - not, of course, that Andy has never left a decision until the last minute! Whistle

As for Timbo - I think the only person who stopped him winning a Slam was himself.  It always seemed to me that he lacked the necessary killer instinct.  Just unfortunate that he was denied his one best chance against Ivanisevic when rain stopped play just as he had Goran by the throat - and I blame the powers that be at Wimbledon for that because they refused to start the match earlier despite knowing that prolonged rain was imminent.

Nervous about this one, watched Raonic v Fed last week and there were full games drifting by where Fed couldn't even get a single shot on the Raonic serve. Andy will have to serve pretty much flawlessly throughout, you don't want to fall a break behind here. The big saving grace is Andy's amazing return game which might help him carve out one or two chances of his own.
Really hoping Andy can get through this one and have a run here, the points he can pick up will take the pressure off a bit when he's defending the 3 slam semi-finals points later in the year. Andy to win in a tense 3 sets!

ps my top 5 players of all time -

1 Murray
2 McEnroe
3 Agassi
4 Nalbandian
5 Gonzo

I see from the poll that we have one doubting Thomas in our midst ... Think

Not taking anything for granted, and I did watch the Fed match, but I still maintain that Andy's experience will see him through unless he's having a really off day which, with Lendl around, seems a bit unlikely, but nervous

As it's now 11 am in Miami and there's been no word to the contrary, then, unless Raonic is leaving a decision until the last minute, I think we can assume he is playing.  Probably felt a sudden tweak during his doubles match and decided it wasn't worth jeopardising his singles, especially this one.

I'd rather there be a few more, the overwhelming confidence the poll suggests makes me a bit nervous.

(For the record I voted Andy in 3)

I think I can go along with that, and I've been a doubter myself on a couple of occasions (got one wrong and one right!), but I've a feeling a lot of members vote with their hearts rather than their heads.  At least this time it isn't the near total "Murray in 2" which has so often been the case in the past.  Good to see a bit of realism around.

Yes i voted for 3 as well, and even if Raonic is carrying an injury I wouldn't change that prediction.

I don't think he will Robbie.  He's a very ambitious and determined young man.

If Raonic does have an ankle problem I hope Andy will be as ruthless as he was against Simon last year in I think MC where he was booed by the home crowd.
