Bye bye Berdy too,  David serving for the match now.
I would love for David to win a major before he retires, must be one of the greatest players ever not to win a slam.

He derserves it so much because he tries tierlessly, is a really nice guy, humble and professional. If they gave out honorary titles, Ferrer should get one!
Totally agreed!  highfive

Somebody on here said the Brisbane draw is out tomorrow. Is that confirmed or speculation?

Courage doesn't always roar - but wins Wimbledon

I don't know why people would think Andy losing to Tipsy in an exhibition matters. It doesn't. Is Tipsy a top five player? No. Is Tipsy likely to be a top five player any time soon? No. Is Tipsy likely to threaten to win a major any time soon? Not bloody likely. I like Tipsy, don't get me wrong, but let's just get a bit real around here.

I'm a wee bit fed up with every little meaningless loss being blown up out of all proportion around here. Sure, I would love Andy to win every match he plays, but he just won't. No one does, not Andy, or Djokovic, or, for that matter, bloody Federer or anyone else.

I wasn't around here before Wimbledon, but I bet it was fun when Andy went out of Queen's early and then lost to Tipsy and Djokovic in the two exhibition matches. What were some of you predicting? A first round exit at Wimbledon I imagine. Andy got to the final.

I was here for the build up to the USO, when Andy went to Toronto off the back of winning the Olympics and pulled out after winning a round, and then lost in Cincy to Chardy. I know the doom merchants around here were predicting a bad USO, and look what Andy did. I hate to say I told you so.........

Andy is trying to be more consistent, but the time to do that is when it matters. Andy didn't need to run himself ragged trying to win Abu Dhabi before heading off to defend in Brisbane ahead of the AO. However, the match practice will have done him good today. At least he won't go in to Brisbane entirely cold - which I suspect was the whole reason why he played Abu Dhabi, not necessarily to win.

It's funny how some talk as if Andy owed us the win because the off season has been long and we'd bothered to watch. Supportive talk, that. Andy owes us nothing.

Andy did play some good stuff today. He just couldn't string the good stuff together enough, or, to put it another way, he did what he needed to do before heading off to Brisbane.

IMO  Andy hasn't played a good match since the USO
So the SF against smugfed in Shanghai wasn't a good match?  Or against jwt at 02 where I watched him play some brilliant shots?  Just rewatched Shanghai match recently and he really took it to smugfed.  Honestly I can't believe you're carping already.
Just got in and disappointing to discover I wasted my tenner though hope it will come in more use for Brisbane.
I imagine Andy was pretty jet lagged still and like most others commenting don't believe we should read anything into this though of course I've not watched the actual match and don't intend to do so now as it doesn't sound worth watching.

We dont know when the others arrived in AD they presumably had some of Christmas at home, Tipsy arrived on 25th they said. (Christmas eve being the main celebrationnday in European countries other than the UK).  Its the same for every one of them, the time zones and jet-lag, which these professionals are well aware of.
Yes, but jet-lag affects some people more than others, and Andy is one of those who doesn't cope with it very well.  I didn't think he played that badly in the circumstances.  6-3, 6-4 is a fairly respectable score against Tipsy who's a greatly improved player these days, and their matches have always been close.  Also if Andy was trying to put any new tactics to the test, better to do it here than wait until Brisbane

Didn't manage to see Daveed beat the Birdman unfortunately, but I'm delighted that he did.  The Almagro match should be interesting.

Well - he needs to take that into account.  I'm not about to buy that as an excuse.  Just rubbish.  He's a professional person.  I'm not in the least bit bothered about this result.  It will pale into insignificance.

I love Ferrer, always have. After Andy he is my favourite, pushing Djokovic to third lol.

I don't see him winning a major though, not now. Maybe if Andy, Novak, Rafa and that other one sat out a major he would, but I don't see that happening just yet.

Secretly, I would love Ferrer to overtake Rafa in the rankings. Nothing at all against Rafa, but Ferrer has lived in his shadow for so long. It would be nice to see him get his moment in the sun, to a degree, before he retires.

Also jet lag affects different people in different directions.  I'm better at travelling East than West and there's a theory that this is true of morning people, which Andy isn't.
TJ - good comment.  I too get sick of it when people write as if Andy has let them down personally when he doesn't play his best tennis.

I'd forgotten about the semi in Shanghai. Stupid really, considering I still have it on my Sky box and I've watched it at least a dozen times. Andy's returns that day.........Awesome!

I can well believe the carping. Some people seem to make it an artform.

You are right tj and the artform diminishes them not Andy.
And thanks for the reminders about the build ups to Wimbledon and USO.  Of course we always want Andy to win always but he ain't going to and better to lose an exhibition and get over to Australia asap than something more serious.   The idea that he's not played a decent match since USO is simply laughable.  In fact, I seem to remember he did better than most players have done post-USO victory.

Absolutely. Seriously, people talk about a lull, dropping form, that sort of thing, but if what Andy did post USO is a lull I'm happy to accept it, until he wins another major of course lol.

Tipsy arrived on 25th all the way from Doha, less than 200 miles away! So probably less of a jet lag problem for him than Andy with his Miami, London(?), Scotland, Abu Dhabi travels over the last few days.

I thought this was an OK match in the circumstances. He lost 4 points on serve in the first set, (unfortunately all in the same game!) so can't have been playing that badly. Tipsy seemed to be on good form from what I could see with intermittent internet connection.

It would have been interesting to see Andy play Rafa next, but as that wasn't going to happen, I'm happy for him to get off to Brisbane sooner rather than later.

I have heard it said, although never experienced it, that jet-lag is worse if you're travelling ahead in time zones.  My cousin and her husband came back a few days ago after visiting their son in LA and she said it took nearly a week for them to get over jet-lag.

I can sympathise with Andy about the 'morning person' thing, because I'm not one either - as the lateness of some of my posts shows!
