Daring to comment on this distinguished and absolutely fascinating thread and expecting to be shot to flames  here goes.   These stats on the serve show an area for improvement with Andy. He spends so much energy trying to produce aces which sometimes works but often does'nt. What he needs is a fairly good and very reliable second serve so he reduces these d fs. This would give him a better chance of success when his aces refuse to come

I like this thread very much, although I need condiserably more time to crunch the numbers.

Good job done SL!

And I agree with Benniebone, Andy would do well to cut out the DFs, we dont need to give away points do we?

I wonder if his increase in DFs is a result of trying to go for it more on his second serve, although I haven't noticed if his average second serve speed has increased.

This  is the reason re his DFs in my opinion When I played tennis at school level we reckoned that getting your second serve in was v important You might get knocked out by your brilliant opponent but they in endeavouring to do this might make a mistake and go wide
In the past I've seen Andy produce a weak second serve and win the point in this way

I'll update the clay stats after RG. One tournament isn't that significant.

I'll try to find out more about serve speeds.

Okay, I updated the clay stats for this season and everything else that needed updating. His return on clay this year has been pretty average to say the least. Just goes to show how much the back problem must have affected him.
