While this should be a good 1st round for Andy, LL has had some good wins and the difficulties that both Soderling and Monfils had in their first rounds are reminders of how lower seeded players can cause difficulties. But Andy sounds like he's in good form so will go for Andy in 3. I guess he might be playing the night match as the highest seed tomorrow unless that spot goes to an American? Good for him in this heat perhaps even if not for us who want to watch it. And congrats to Andy on winning the USO series trophy - here's hoping he wins the big one a week on Sunday. I've done a poll but it seems to be geared still to 3 sets rather than 5 so perhaps a moderator could change it?? Also I notice a typo in lackadaisical but can't see how to edit it. Ah, done it now and have edited accordingly.

Cant believe Andy isn't playing today. Took the day off so that I could watch his first match and he's the only high seed who won t have completed his opening round. Tough luck for m e Tough for Andy - it means he'll have to play consecutive days somewhere.

That's what I was thinking but Greg R on Sky seemed to think he'd benefit down the line. I don't quite understand how they schedule matches on USO as I think GR said they play the semi-finals and finals back to back on the final w/e and that therefore Andy wouldn't lose his rhythm. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can explain?

They do play them back to back .... and Saturday is called Super Saturday and it is to do with advertising and selling tickets ... it's part of what makes The Open such a cauldron .....

Thanks Daisy. For some reason I'd got it into my head that this Saturday was super saturday.

No ... they cram in the Ladies Final as well as the two mens Semi Finals, all on the same day. Makes for a great day's tennis. I did read, somewhere recently, that some ATP players prefer this arrangement - but undoubtedly it depends on how hard they had to toil in their semi final ... Additionally, there have been complaints from the ATP side that they feel it is unfair as they do not know when their semi final is going to start as the length of the Ladies Final could take quite a while.

Better get this done quickly with the extreme heat.
