"Even when he had set points, in the third set, he could not take the big step. He tried to attack, but a mid-court forehand let him down. It is not a shot he would usually select, and on the big points, tennis players revert to instinct.
"It was a revealing moment, and one which showed Andy now needs to improve technically, to ingrain the killer shot so deep inside him that it becomes instinctive to play it at the right moment, like Roger. That is the next stage in his progression."
The above sentences are what I have been trying to express.

A great article on the mentality of 2 champions. Can Andy develop a similar winning mentality ?

Thanks Allan. I have just voted (for Andy of course). I was looking for the Flemski combination but they are not yet big enough to be voted for.

Andy's underwear is one of the causes for distracting him in the AO final.

I'd heard this one already, although it's nice to read the actual press conference.

Federer can possibly play on for another 4 to 5 years ! This is good for tennis as a whole. This means that when Andy gets his hand on the GS (I believe sometimes this year), it will make it all the more worthwhile. Once Andy can get a set off Federer, the great man will get worn down. I noticed that in the recent AO, Federer changed his shirt at least twice.

Funny maybe, but worrying. Murray was understandably nervous at the beginning of the match but, as the writer said, at this level there is no room for distractions of any kind, and Andy's focus is fragile. With Nadal, constant bum fiddling has become part and parcel of his game. True, Murray was not at his best until the 3rd set, but this constant distraction might just have jeopardised any chance he had for his first Slam win.

Sorry, should have said that Murray was only approaching his best by the 3rd set - too late at night for clear thinking.

http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2010/02/Zagreb-Sunday-Cilic-Defends-Title.aspx
Cilic has won another title. He has already won two titles + 1 SF to have earned 20 more points than Andy this year (2 x 250 + 720 = 1220) although Cilic has played 3 tournaments to Andy 1 tournament. This shows how well Andy played to beat him. He will be dangerous this year.

By winning the two titles this year, Cilic has only defended titles he won last year.
Though that is mentioned in the article.
