the trouble with that theory Aileen is that it can mean that somehow those who don't make it are to blame.  I know that's not what you meant but I've had too many friends die of cancer to go along with it.
I apologise for that misleading statement, because that's certainly not what I meant, since my mother died of cancer and so have friends and relatives.  Therefore what I was referring to was the theory, not expressing my personal opinion.

Don't think it's as simple as that. Losing the will to live is a very real factor in terminal illness. Who's to say it's not the right thing for people to do if they so choose. Why would blame be attached? Often its literally the last piece of control people have over their lives.

Well I can assure you that if I ever have a terminal illness then I won't be fighting it.  What's the point at my age?  Just so's I might have an extra few months of a life that's been a bit of a battle for quite a while now anyway?  Also I have no close family to consider, and if I did, why put them through further grief by trying to postpone the inevitable?  Ross Hutchins on the other hand is a young man with his whole future, including his forthcoming marriage and a reasonably successful tennis career, in front of him, so had every reason to want to live.  Perhaps that might have helped, but ultimately, given that his cancer was stage IV, the outcome rested on how effective the treatment was.

sorry to have misinterpreted you Aileen.  And 5rings what I was trying to say is that sometimes a kind of moral superiority is attributed to those who 'fight' cancer.  I agree with you.  A guy I used to go out with died of lung cancer just recently.  He didn't lose the will to live but nor did he want to live his last months 'fighting' - instead he preferred to live life well for the last few months.

I'd assume that the BBC keep backups, but it sounds as though they were pretty lax by leaving original material in insecure places.  Maybe they should send the original footage of Andy winning Wimbledon to Edinburgh Castle for safe keeping!

Significant step forward for Wimbledon champion who tweets that he is “going to try and play points for the first time since surgery .... #rusty”

Since undergoing back surgery on Sept 23, Andy Murray has been careful not to make any promises over his fitness for next month’s Australian Open.
But there was encouraging news on Wednesday from Miami, where the intensity of his training schedule continues to rise.
“Going to try and play points today for the first time since surgery .... #rusty” wrote Murray on his Twitter page.
The return to some form of competitive action is a significant step up for a man who, until Wednesday, had only been batting the ball to and fro with his hitting partners, the doubles specialist Ross Hutchins and the fast-improving 18-year-old prospect Kyle Edmund.
Murray and his entourage were at Crandon Park on Key Biscayne, his favourite practice facility some 20 minutes’ drive from his flat in the Brickell district of Miami. This is the same stadium where he won the Sony Ericsson title in March, and where he does the majority of his training.

He was accompanied by head coach Ivan Lendl and assistant Dani Vallverdu, as well as fitness trainer Jez Green.
The mood must have been upbeat because Murray is still four weeks away from playing his first competitive match, at the Qatar ExxonMobile Open, and six weeks from opening his campaign at next year’s first grand slam. For him to miss those appointments now, there would have to be a major setback.
Murray would have made a low-key appearance in an exhibition tournament last week in Barbados, but the Dream Cup folded when Richard Gasquet pulled out through injury and ESPN withdrew its interest.
He has also yet to confirm whether he will attend the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year show in Leeds on Dec 15, for which he is the runaway favourite, but the relatively advanced stage of his rehabilitation would seem to improve his chances of taking a day or two off to appear.

Hope there'll be a pic soon of Lendl there.

Came across this short article where Tim [I think he's playing at the Royal Albert Hall - this week?] is asked about the 'Lendl influence' on Andy - http://www.clubcall.com/tennis-mens/henman---lendl-has-changed-murray-mindset-1674793.html

There is a fantastic picture of Andy running currently in Time magazine. It has been inserted by Rado watches as an advert, which has been running for about 7 weeks.

I'd love to post it here, but I'm just ignorant and don't know how to. Perhaps Nigel or anyone else can instruct me.

It's a full page advert, placed in the first 10-15 pages, on the right-hand side. If you access the current mag you should be able to find it. You can't miss it
