From the Sunday Star Times at the weekend - not a favourable review of Andy's talents

Sorry! Missed the last line off the scan! Ist column says 'etiquette, it seems utterly uncharitable'
2nd column says 'as you'll ever get?'
Can't re-scan - too many people in work now.

I tried to phone up The Wright Stuff this morning when they were talking about Andy Murray. They were still banging on about the anti-English thing.

Was there a lot of defence for him on that subject?

Do these journos not realise how stupid they look - this thing has been debunked so many times now, it's just not funny anymore...

Bev...Clydey's right...the author's a balloon. What a bitter, twisted, negative and spiteful piece of utter drivel. Tells you absolutely nothing bar a lot of Brits don't mind queueing to watch foreigners play tennis and that although Murrays in the form of his life...he's got no chance. If that's what passes for journalism in NZ....then I'm on the next flight to start a proper newspaper. Piss poor

I must say, his argument against Andy winning was non-existant. Giz a job then, Mr Paper Owner!

No. It was only the presenter and Ann Diamond who defended him. However, they didn't defend him because they thought it was a joke. Even they thought it was still serious. They sort of defended him from the perspective of "He's a Scotsman, so what do you expect? He's got to go home and face the other Scots, so it's understandable what he said."
One guy on the panel even came out and blatantly said that he won't be supporting him because he's Scottish.

Was never a massive fan of piers morgan, but finally, someone who speaks some truth...

Amid the plethora of comment about Andy Murray's superb win at Queen's last week, one stood out like a large dollop of jet black squid ink on a snowman.
'I think Andy's still got a long way to get the British public 100 per cent behind him, to adore him,' said Annabel Croft.
'The audience at Queen's was very mixed and a lot of them would have been happy if James Blake had won. Even at the end, after he got the trophy, when he went for the walk round, people were leaving.'
Annabel then offered some firm advice to Murray to try to win over the public. 'He just needs to be himself and smile more. Just be a bit chirpier.'
A bit chirpier? For heaven's sake, he's not a bloody sparrow. It's almost unbelievable that a British tennis fan would actually want an American to beat our best player in a key match before Wimbledon.

Tim Henman smiled so much he could have had lockjaw by the time he left a court, always wanted England to win at football, and was probably - for two weeks a year, anyway - the single most popular British sporting hero since Bobby Moore. And he never won Wimbledon. Or anything else important for that matter. You do the maths.

I wouldn't put any stock in the opinions of the Queen's crowd, they are the worst sort of British socialites with not a clue about tennis or the requirements of a top level athlete. Annabel Croft is an idiot too - why do people attach so much importance to a smile? Nadal scowls his way around a tennis court but receives adulation wherever he goes! I'm starting to realise that I despise ~90% of the British population.

I won't read NZ papers because they are that poor! Hubby bought the paper to look for jobs and just glanced at the sports section - think I was shaking my head all way through reading it. Needs someone of Clydey's or Joe's caliber to write to him though
