Typical Mail, takes a joking comment and runs with it
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2134855/Andy-Murray-girlfriend-Kim-Sears-wont-marrying-anytime-soon.html
To which Andy has responded on twitter
"Just to clear this up, my girlfriend has never once pushed me to get married... I made a joke surprisingly the papers make a big deal of it "

Why is he surprised? This isn't the first time his jokes have been twisted by the media and in fact he's only drawing more attention to it by commenting on twitter. He should just have let it go - unless, of course, Kim wanted him to clarify things.

Quite possible that Kim did want it clarified. I also dislike the little digs, which imply Andy lives a life of luxury - eg why was it necessary to say that Jamie got married in a luxury hotel? Of course Andy is a millionaire but I get the impression that, for all his pricey home, he's not in to luxury. (As he reminded us in the interview he sold his Ferrari because he felt a prat in it - or was that the 5live interview? And he certainly doesn't dress smartly!) But those little digs will reinforce any prejudice DM readers have against Andy.

I think Andy is very sensible about money. I do not think he throws it around but lives comfortably. I cannot see him spending a lot on clothes as he likes the casual look. I think he is good to family and of course Kim. He is a kind sensible man.

Yes I hate the assumption that people like Andy wallow in luxury and throw their money around. The reason he bought his big mansion was because he said he'd lived for so long in hotels when on tour and before that in the very basic conditions in Spain that he wanted to indulge himself a bit by buying an expensive house - and who can blame him for wanting to live in comfort and have rooms to spare for friends and relatives to stay - something he enjoys? Also property, especially where he lives, is a first-class investment. He's always stressed that he doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, and isn't to be seen falling out of nightclubs at 3 am. Also he supports three charities and of course we have no idea how much money he gives to them, but I bet it's generous.

Men’s singles: Andy Murray’s cold feet symptomatic of men who avoid tying the knot
[Scotland on Sunday, 29 April]
AS Andy Murray tries to shrug off disparaging comments about Kim Sears, Anna Burnside asks what makes men so averse to tying the knot.
AN ANXIOUS Andy Murray took to Twitter last week. “My girlfriend has never once pushed me to get married,” he told his 800,000-odd followers firmly. “I made a joke, the papers make a big deal of it.” Apparently the world’s tennis number four was pulling David Frost’s leg when, during a TV interview, he told him: “No matter how much she is pushing me. I haven’t fallen for it yet.” .......
....... The reaction to Murray’s apparently throwaway comments reveals an old-fashioned attitude towards marriage that, says Agony Aunt Hilary Freeman, does not square with her postbag. “I very rarely get letters from women who are desperate to get their boyfriends to marry them. They want fidelity and commitment, but marriage is not high on their agenda. If anything, it’s men – who still have fewer rights than women when it comes to children – who need marriage.”
It’s time, says Freeman, to stop thinking of women playing games to persuade what Carrie calls “toxic bachelors” into wedlock. “Women do not trick guys to the altar. Kate Middleton did not ‘play a long game’. They lived together and got married when they were both ready. People in adult relationships work things out their own way.”

He's averse to "tying the knot" because 1) he only 24 nearly 25 2) he spends his life travelling the world and 3) he wants a slam.
Bit of a non event article, I'd say.

I didn't like the article because, as is usually the case when discussing people they don't know and have never met, the Agony Aunt was making suppositions about Andy and Kim and their relationship which could in reality be far wide of the mark.

Transcript of the David Frost interview, introduced by Frost himself - Daily Mail, 28 April
When friends learned that I was about to interview Andy Murray, several of them predicted that I would find him shy and uncommunicative.
Fortunately, that particular myth about Murray turned out to be nonsense. Off the court, he was friendly and approachable, not to mention engaging, humorous and thoughtful.

AM: What’s your most irritating habit?
JM: My wife would probably say picking my nose.
AM: Depends what you do with it after you’ve finished picking your nose.

Tignor article :
http://blogs.tennis.com/thewrap/2012/05/reading-the-readers-asterisked-edition.html
(He's is responding to some readers comments. His response is in bold):
Murray's story is striking -- all that monk-like focus hasn't had the desired results. Maybe he's an illustration of McEnroe's theory that too much focus on tennis is detrimental to a tennis player.—Kristy
Murray's groundstrokes look better back then. I don't know if this makes sense to anyone, but I sort of think of a circular followed by a linear segment as an ideal for groundstrokes. andy had that on both sides in this clip. he has it on neither side now, as his backhand is often too linear (flat) and his forehand is almost always too circular (spinny).—d
I thought the same things watching the clips of Murray as a teenager. His strokes were looser and his forehand looked more natural. You do wonder if he’s overworked himself and made himself too methodical in his preparation—unlike Federer, he’s never found a use for his quotient of genius. McEnroe would know, too, because he was able to utilize similar gifts. He hated practice and long points, so he tried to end them as soon as he could.

scotnadian @ 6:00 pm - Great double act.
scotnadian @ 6:12 pm - I no longer watch videos of Andy's earlier matches because it's so disheartening. I've said for a long time that his obsession with hard work could be determental, and in this respect workaholic Lendl is the last person he needs as a coach, unless he's changed in his middle-age. Also all the natural spontaneity and fire have long been lacking in his game. Years ago Brad Gilbert described Andy as "a tennis genius", so ...
EDIT: For the avoidance of doubt, I still, and always will, support Andy. He's achieved a lot to be very proud of. I just hope he somehow finds himself again.
