I'm not surprised the rivalry chat during clay includes Rafa.  There is no way he'll not be considered a major factor on the surface now he's back and shown he's at least reasonably capable.  Whether that extends into the grass and hard-court seasons is another matter.  However, it is true to say pundits are a fickle lot.  All they are interested in is creating some buzz, and they don't care about loyalty etc.  In fact, the more they can chop and change what is new and exciting, the more new and exciting it seems.

It is interesting to see the results if you apply Wimbledon rules to clay, but to do the exact same sums doesn't make sense.  Wimbledon does it's adjustment because the grass season is so short.  The clay season is much longer, so is already much better represented in the actual rankings.  If you are a clay court specialist, you can already pick up extra points by taking part in the many extra clay tournaments that most top players don't normally bother with.  If there was a grass equivalent to the South American swing, grass court specialists would be able to pick up extra easy points and the look of the top 20 would be very different.

I am reading the word "fair" as meaning the reverse, or have I misinterpretated it?
How can Ferrer be above Murray with his zero GS finals/titles?

Hasn't Ferrer just gone out in the first round of Barcelona?

That's a good point Sparkle - with all the clay tournaments available to play, there's definitely no need for a clay formula. Lower down the rankings it would probably make some quite major changes between the true clay specialists and those who don't have good results on clay at all. It's quite impressive that Andy still comes in at number 5 though - his 2011 clay season must have made a difference there.

I see John McEnroe has joined the debate, saying that he thinks Nadal should be seeded number 1 - I'm sure Djokovic would be very happy about that!

Mcenroe just likes to throw his pebble in the pond and watch the ripples.  I'm surprised that Becker hasn't added his tuppence worth to the debate - he usually does.

I think Boris is too busy doing insightful twitter posts these days. Wink Oh well, at least they've moved on from criticising Andy now - I guess that's progress!

I hope the tennis journalists find something else to talk about between now and RG though - this seeding issue could get very boring very quickly.

I am not sure how to react to all this. Maybe we should just all wait and see how it goes as far as the seedings are concerned.

Also as far as I'm aware there is specific formula to work out Wimbledon seedings - the committee just make subjective decisions based on previous record on Grass. Murray is so far ahead of Ferrer in the overall rankings anyway that there is no way he'd find himself behind him. The reality is that Djokovic would be #1, Nadal #2, Federer #3 and Murray #4. But it's irrelevant because the FO don't do this anyway, for reasons Sparkle stated above. Wouldn't make sense.

Oh what a shame - I'll always remember his radio commentary when Andy won the Olympics.  Do we know why?   Is it part of Beeb cuts?  Just been on to his blog on bbc website and I see it  says purely his decision and a personal one  He's going after Wimbledon and is hoping to go out with a bang.  Let's hope so!  Can't imagine how squeaky his voice would get if Andy won Wimbledon  Whistle

I listened to that bit of his USO commentary over and over again.  Magnificent.

Whilst I'm very pleased to hear that Andy and Delpo are good friends, the appointment of  Colombini as well as Bhupathi to his management team worries me a little.   Given what he's achieved I don't blame Andy for exploiting his self-worth to some extent, in fact he'd be silly not too, but I wouldn't like to think that he's become totally money-orientated.
