I don't see it happening. They relying on the top players to show up to make teams. Can you honestly see Nadal doing it with his knees on hard court? Rolling Eyes

I'd like to kick Mike Dickson's backside.  What a horrible, snide article that is.  Fortunately most of the comments below are supportive, but "there are powerful political interests wanting to do all they can to engineer a Wimbledon title for the Scot."  Oh dearie me! Rolling Eyes

Andy needs to keep as mobile as possible otherwise his body would soon stiffen up and make it all the harder for him to get back into playing competitively.  He's got a trainer and a physio who will be keeping an eye on things and who will no doubt have worked out a recovery programme for him based on the specialists' advice, so it makes sense that he should be doing some gentle practice on the grass.  It's only certain movements that were causing him so much pain, especially on clay, so that won't stop him from practising where he can avoid these movements (serving being one of them) and thereby give his back a chance to settle down as quickly as possible.

I thoroughly loathe the Daily Mail. Its journalistic standards are mean and shallow. This song that I discovered a while back sums it up brilliantly.

To be fair, Judy didn't help the speculation by saying that he'd be focusing on Wimbledon when asked about the injury, and a lot of the press said similar about how it could be good for him.   I'm sure they were all trying to put a positive spin on things, wanting to be optimistic and glass half full, and avoiding the melodrama of Novak's season threatening ankle injury etc, but it's just inevitable that certain people with agendas will look to exploit it.

In some ways it's a compliment and a sign of how seriously they feel threatened by Andy.  They know he has a good chance of winning Wimbledon, so may as well get in early with the excuses for why it won't count. Rolling Eyes

Those with common sense know full well Andy adjusts quickly to the grass, and the only question mark over him having another great grass season is his fitness.  However, those with an axe to grind will interpret everything accordingly.  They probably don't even know they are doing it half of the time - it's so engrained in how they think.

Seriously though, I think the Mail feels better about itself when it panders to the Murray-hating, xenophobic, ranting, know-nothing mob half its readers appear to be.

I have finally twigged that you can report offensive comments and get them removed, which will be my strategy in future. The rabid Nadal supporter who complained that Murray was missing a slam when he was actually fit really hacked me off. Talk about pot - kettle - black. How long has a fully fit Nadal been out for...? Not to mention him playing golf, which is really hard on the knees when he was out.

I admit I wasn't too keen on the media going on about Wimbledon for the reasons you state, but I could see why they did.  Andy haters are going to hate anyway, no matter what he does, because, as you so rightly say, it's all down to what I would politely call inflexible thinking because they're so stuck in a rut of negativity where he's concerned that they can't get out of it.

Those comments on the DM article are shocking - worse than usual. Maybe we need another campaign, like last year:

I'm more ticked off by some of the snidey comments  tho there are some supportive ones too. However bbc message board also attracts a ridiculous amount of trolls. I suspect people with an axe to grind are always more likely to post comments on that kind of messsage board so probably pro Andy people outnumber them, it just doesn't appear that way - unlike on here (it's my glass half full again). Rise above it .....

The Mail has always been nasty. It seems to me that they go about their 'journalism' by finding certain people, most of whom have done a damned sight more than them, and then finding ways to be as vindictive as possible. It's that old idea of build them up and then knock them down.

Sometimes I think Mail writes its pieces purely to appeal to those who can't engage their brains for more than a second at a time. Most of the lowest, most vile, most offensive stuff Andy has been on the receiving end of seems to come from the Mail, not to mention the comments sections on articles. It's quite obvious that certain elements comment on articles purely to wind up those of us who defend Andy, which tells you so much about how mature they are,

I think the BBC message board is scary, because it's supposed to be moderated. Well, if that is moderation I'm a monkey's uncle. It angers me intensely that every time Andy does something, wins, loses, whatever, you get these nutters going on there to spread their muck. Meanwhile the BBC doesn't do a damned thing about it.

Some stuff on bbc board is totally vitriolic. I'm happy to accept that we don't all share the same views, that's life, but folk on there are as you say totally nasty (and ignorant)and it would seem just for the sake of it as opposed to creating a civilised debate. Every so often you come across a 'this comment has been removed' and I have to wonder, how bad was it, given the comments which don't get removed.

I thought most of them were supportive - or maybe I've missed something?  I tried to leave one of my own but the damned thing wouldn't let me log in telling me my details were wrong which is nonsense because I've left two or three comments over the past few months.

It seems a few comments were removed from the DM as well.
