As always, the draw is important. There is a chance Andy had to play Federer, Nadal and Djoko....

^^ Thanks to all for the links.
Just came across this - an interview with Emilio Sanchez of the Spanish Academy where Andy met Dani V. http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/tennis/spanish-tutor-tells-murray-he-must-not-rest-on-laurels.21928617

Fingers crossed for a good draw tomorrow.

This is remarkable, i have never seen Andy looking so refreshed, is it me or does he actually look younger? it's really amazing to see someone who is obviously looking better for having a huge weight lifted from their shoulders.

When Rafael Nadal, who has defended a Grand Slam title more than once, was asked if he had any sage advice to impart to Murray regarding this new position, the Spaniard initially said, “Not win,” with a laugh. Nadal went on to say, “Andy’s a great guy and a fantastic player. He really doesn’t need any advice. When you come back in a tournament that you already won, my feeling is it’s not a big, big difference. The only thing that is different and will help, you did it in the past, and when you did it one time in the past, it’s easier to do it again because you know that you can do it.”

Ugh - if only Andy had gone just a little further in Montreal and Cincy and kept his lead over Nadal ... Frown

If Andy was still seeded 2 he could still have had to play Nadal, Federer and Djoko, so I don't see being no 3 such a disaster. I'm just hoping and praying that Andy will get a good draw missing Berdy, JJ on his side of the draw, and that he has opponents early on that do not cause him too much trouble so that he can get to the second week relatively refreshed.

But surely even if Andy were number 2 he could still have had to play rafa in the SF, depending on the draw? The only real difference is that then he couldn't meet Nole until the final; now he could meet him in the SF, assuming they all get that far.  Or am I missing something and being stupid?  At present Nole looks like a lesser threat than Rafa.  But either way he could end up playing both. And as I don't see Ferrer getting to the SFs, who knows what dangerous player Andy might avoid playing in the SFs by being ranked 3rd.  So let's look on the bright side of life folks rather than worry about the possible implications of Andy dropping from 3 to 2.

Apologies somehow missed Michelle's post, which making the same point.

Why be afraid of people like Berdych and Janowicz? this is a slam not a masters, Andy is much harder to beat over 5 sets than he is 3.

I think Johnny Mac made a good point the other day regarding his recent losses being due to him being hunted more now as a slam winner, especially since Wimbledon. Andy is going to have to learn how to deal with players upping their game against him, we have seen recently what happens when a player starts to lose their aura of invincibility with Fed, and to some extent Djokovic.
