Murray will be 'sharp' for Paris  [Sporting Life, 7 Feb]

Andy Murray's gruelling back injury rehabilitation could boost his French Open campaign, according to coach Ivan Lendl.

Two-time Grand Slam winner Murray forced his way past back trouble to compete in the season-opening Australian Open last month.

Lendl said the 26-year-old Scot pushed hard for a return, condensing fitness and rehab work in the process.

Murray slipped out of the Australian Open at the quarter-finals, seen off by Roger Federer.

Eight-time Grand Slam champion Lendl believes Murray will not start to feel the benefit of that punishing schedule until at least next month.

By the time Roland Garros comes along in May, Lendl expects Murray to be in both top shape, and form.

"Our preparation for Australia was a little condensed after injuries," said Lendl. "He was a little fatigued because he had to do so many things, so many hours of fitness and tennis in a shorter period of time than usual.

"But I don't think that time is going to get lost, I think it's going to start paying dividends around March.

"The schedule has been pretty much set, it's pretty good leading up to the French.

"There's time for Andy to be sharp for the French and that's what we're working towards now of course."

Thanks Dani.  I'm glad Andy got this opportunity to further ease himself into playing competitively again and that he sounds cautiously optimistic about his back. Smile

given Andy himself says he's still testing the back seems perfectly reasonable to continue worrying about it to me.  What I like is the fact that he's enjoying playing matches again - and pain free.

I'd understand the "stop worrying" thing if people were being all doom and gloom, and constantly fretting, but most people are being optimistic about Andy's progress.

It was always going to take many months for Andy to fully recover from his surgery, if he was going to fully recover, so there's nothing wrong with recognising that, and adjusting our expectations accordingly.  Far better to accept he's still on the mend than to get your knickers in a twist because it comes as a shock that he's not playing at his peak level.

Oh dear. Bad PR.

They're ridiculous people. They're renting, for God's sake, and he gave them 6 months' notice. More than enough to find a new home.

Typical Daily Mail story. Six months' notice is generous  - and the family in question have only lived there for 8 months anyway! They've had plenty of time to find a new place to rent before being made 'homeless'.

Also it was they who apparently said that it Andy bought the hotel he would ensure that the tenancies remained, which he obviously has done, but that doesn't mean that he promised not to 'evict' them.

Anyway if the tenants in question felt so aggrieved, why didn't they complain when they got the original notice to quit six months ago?  Not that that would have done them any good because the landlords hadn't done anything wrong, and I'd assume that a Lease would be in place for each tenancy.

Typical sob-story garbage from the DM, complete with deliberately posed photo of poor unhappy Mum with her equally unhappy looking bairns.

If so it's a nice try on their part, but there's nothing they need to be compensated for.  The previous landlords, and Andy, haven't done anything illegal.  I take their point about staff being recruited locally, but I also know that bringing in some 'specialist' staff from elsewhere is a necessity.

Basically it's a completely pointless and malicious article designed to tarnish Andy's good public image.
