I think that was the the usual journalistic license; no way would a discussion and decision like that take place in that way.
Certainly not at the fees Andy would be paying for that consultation!!!  I think the doc was just saying goodbye.

@Dani You are right, we'll never know!
@Fiverings Maybe he only said goodbye, but I assume that docs in GB doesn't normally walk to the car park with their  patients (in the Netherlands they don't, especially not when their patient is a public figure Smile )

Look at all the pics on this page. Andy looks so tall in all the pics! And the sport clothes in the hospital setting....

No they most certainly do not flowerpower, although as Andy was presumably paying for a full private consultation, as opposed to being given the usual quick check-over by the NHS, then, yes, I imagine they would.  There's a huge world of difference between being treated privately and being treated for free on the NHS.  I know because I've had private consultations a couple of times rather than wait weeks or months in an NHS queue.

What I find so objectionable about these photos is the fact that at least one paparazzi was obviously skulking around taking them, and then passed them on to the Daily Mail which was only too happy to pay for them, either that or it could have been a photographer employed by that newspaper.  Also I bet Andy and his team weren't even aware that this was happening because these creeps use technology such as zoom lenses to get their pics, so can safely do so at a distance without being noticed.  This, of course, leads to the question - how did anyone know when and where Andy was going for his consultation?  I suppose the obvious answer is by phone-tapping, and I wouldn't put it past the DM to do something like that despite all the recent phone-tapping scandals.  Either that or someone at the hospital 'leaked' the information, probably for financial gain.  Sadly though such intrusions into privacy are part and parcel of being a public figure and usually no complaint is made unless the intrusion is regarded as a serious violation of that privacy, which this isn't.

The photos were in the online version of a couple of local papers, and I noted they had a watermark of some kind on them - presumably related to the photographer or photo agency, so in this instance, I don't think we can blame the DM for taking them.  It wasn't a secret that Andy was going to see specialists, so IMO it's not that big a deal that he was photographed in the car-park.  It's not like he was snapped outside the STD clinic! lol

The local paper gave the name of the hospital, presumably quite proud that Andy was going there for advice, so I don't think there was any malice intended, although it is without doubt an invasion.  I think it's nice that it shows that NHS specialists are considered amongst the best (even if it were a private consultation, it's the same staff), and that they exist outside of London.

They were first published before Andy made the statement about withdrawing from the FO, but I completely agree with the notion that the text surrounding them is entirely speculative and made up to suit whichever angle they are running, and trying to make out they've done proper journalism.

I can't see anyone believing that the photos captured the "moment" Andy was told ...  Most likely, a couple of them went into his consultation with him (physio and fitness trainer as they speak the right language and have good knowledge of what treatments and exercises he's already done) and the rest of his team were all there so they could discuss what the specialist said while it was still fresh in their minds, and know what they are up to.  From the look on Dani's face, I think he was in charge of telling Ivan!

It's not normal for a consultant to walk their patients to the car, but it looks like an out-patient clinic, not part of the main hospital building, so it's probably just a couple of hundred metres from his office to the car-park, and if he didn't have an appointment immediately afterwards, why not?  He may have been going to his car anyway, or to the main building and just fancied the opportunity for a chat on the way out.  Who can blame him?   I'm sure we'd do the same! lol

^ Thanks for that Sparkle and I agree with all of it. Smile  So as the local paper had the information about the hospital I reckon they must also have known/worked out which clinic Andy would be going to (not exactly rocket science that).  If they couldn't then find out the time of his appointment a local photographer was presumably asked to hang around outside the place for as long as it took to get the pics, and getting one of him and the consultant together must have been big bonus.

My point is that Andy wanted this time these pictures in the paper (to show that he is really injured).

My guess is that if they knew they had one of the country's top specialists, they guessed he might turn up.  Or just as likely, they got lucky and someone linked to the photographer/paper spotted him and made a call.

Perhaps I'm being optimistic. I'd hate the thought of someone from the hospital itself leaking information  (even if his back problems were already in the public domain), but you know how it is in these days of social media.  People were tweeting photos of meeting Andy at the service station, and it's not hard to believe that another patient or relative would innocently update their Facebook page to say they'd spotted him in the hospital car park.

The photos appear to be of him leaving the appointment, so if he was spotted on the way in, there would be time for someone to get there and get in position.

^ Well whatever the position was, like you I hope that it wasn't a leak from somebody working in the hospital, although, as you say, unfortunately that sort of thing seems to be common practice these days.

That could be a possibility - especially given the comments made by certain persons last year that he was a drama queen.

Agree Aileen, and once said, the words 'drama queen" still appears on internet....

Besides, I think it must be awfull to live like Andy and Kim knowing there are always people making pics. Mostly journaists but also other people. For example the pics outside the store; those are not fans, just people who want a pic with someone they know. So it is nice if Andy once in a while has a benefit from it....

I'd hate it too particularly as Andy and Kim can't even enjoy something like a private walk with the dogs without being photographed.  Andy knows that the paparazzi hang around outside his house so I suppose he's learnt to put up with it as being the price you pay for being a high profile public figure.

Good to see.  Obviously taken from along way off, but that just adds to the magic.

I'd say a member of the hospital staff probably tipped off the local press.

That tweet sounds nasty to me, but it's nice to see Andy playing on the grass again.

How do we know that it was a doctor?
BBH wasn't saying it was a doctor, just a member of the staff - and the ones most likely to have been in the know initially are secretaries or anyone responsible for making appointments.  It only needs one person to gossip to another and it spreads like wildfire, whether it's a hospital or any other establishment.
