Queens R2 - Murray vs Mahut « on: June 12, 2012, 03:55 PM »

To be played on Wednesday 13th June (weather permitting), at around 2pm BST. It is 2nd on Centre Court.

Andy will get his Queens defence underway against popular Frenchman Nicolas Mahut. These two haven't met since 2008, and have only met twice in total (Murray winning both in straight sets). They have never met on Grass before.

Mahut is currently is a good bit of form, taking Federer to four sets in Roland Garros last week, and is up to #65 in the world - the highest he's been since setting a career best of #40 four years ago. Grass is Mahut's favourite surface and he's well known for his 'acrobatics' of such on court, similar to that of compatriot Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Mahut is perhaps most famous for the longest ever match - losing 68-70 in the 5th set to John Isner at Wimbledon two years ago.

Shouldn't be too much of a contest for Murray but Mahut is no walkover.

The winner will face the winner of 14th seed Gilles Muller and Grigor Dimitrov.

Cant quite believe Mahut is the same height as Murray. This is a good first round for him. Really like Mahut. Should be a lot of nice tennis in this one.

Andy played against Mahut last year in the Hopman Cup and beat him there as well. So I think he will play well tomorrow and come out the victor. He enjoys playing against a player who serves and volleys, gives Andy a target.

It should be pretty straightforward but with Andy you can never be too sure. Either way this tournament is irrelevant in the Grand slam scheme of things.

^^ that's right and that's why I am not super excited about it. Last time Andy won but fell short in the Wimbledon semi. I've gotten to the point where I don't care for 250/500 tournaments anymore.
