Sorry, being an idiot... yes I meant could Murray be prevented from reaching no-1. Thanks for answering that.

I normally find the long break over the summer hard to cope with, but this year I'll be quite glad of it - the last few months have been tiring! The thought of Andy having all those points to defend in the autumn is freaking me out

Yes. To stop him falling out of the top 2 he needs Murray to lose to Roddick.

if Fed wins his Davis cup games and Indianapolis he could take no 1 spot back on 27th making Murray No 1 for 1 week with no games played but undefeated as world no 1. would this be some kind of recored ? Anyway the important thing is not his reaching no 1 for a week or two but maintaining no 2 which will mean some tournaments Fed and Nadal will meet each other in the semis which will make it easier for Andy to compete fairly with them.

Sorry for being a bit thick, but can you give a brief explanation of why Murray could only keep no.1 for a couple of weeks?

Basically, the points from two masters events from last year fall off a few weeks before they get played again this year, so even if Murray becomes number 1 by winning Wimbledon, Federer who is defending less points at these events will overtake him.

If he wins Wimbledon, none of that matters; a) because the whole country will go tennis mad and he'll be knighted and b) because it will give him so much confidence that he'll win those same tournaments again and the US Open too
(He'll get those 250 points back from the penalty too)
What tourney does he play next after Wimbledon?

Montreal, unless he takes a wildcard somewhere...

Was wondering about this the other day - it's a big gap and he might want some hardcourt practice before Montreal, but Washington is the biggest tourney before that and isn't well placed: if he plays Washington, he'll be playing three weeks in a row (Wash/Montreal/Cincy). He might well decide to do Indy, but I think he would have announced it by now.

More then that, he'd need a wildcard. The entry lists for all these tournaments have already been announced, and Andy is not on any of them. That means as recently as a few weeks ago he was not planning on playing anything. He could change his mind and request a wildcard, but I think that's very unlikely.

But, do you not think, if he wins this one... it's just going to open the floodgates? It's just going to cement in him a mentality that's going to be sooo hard to beat.
God.... I need to calm down. I want this for him so much.....
