More then that, he'd need a wildcard. The entry lists for all these tournaments have already been announced, and Andy is not on any of them. That means as recently as a few weeks ago he was not planning on playing anything. He could change his mind and request a wildcard, but I think that's very unlikely.
Yeah, I think he'll choose the Federer/Nadal route of coming back straight at a Masters event and knowing that he's good enough to find his form straight away. He already has the full points available in his ranking for 250 events anyway, so he'd only been doing it as a warmup.
Players need four 500 results in the ranking, right? So he's played Rotterdam and Dubai so far - any idea what he'll choose for the rest of the season? I understand he needs to play one after the USO so I guess he'll choose one of the Asian 500s (Beijing/Tokyo), but which other one? Basel/Valencia might be overkill at that tailend heading into the Tour Finals... could he slot his Monte Carlo SF result into the 4th 500 position?

But, do you not think, if he wins this one... it's just going to open the floodgates? It's just going to cement in him a mentality that's going to be sooo hard to beat.
God.... I need to calm down. I want this for him so much.....
Patience, Elly, let's get him through tomorrow first...

I wasn't talking about Murray btw, was just making a comment about how the British public will react.

I know, but what I mean is that if he wins it, then it's not going to be some seven day wonder. There will be more to come, and then the public will sit up and take notice.

I think they already are. I don't think it'll change anything as far as tennis coverage and popularity is concerned.

With Valencia he'll have his quota. Monte Carlo does count towards the minimum of four 500's needed.

Maybe a few more days per year for the latter stages of the other Slams, I doubt anything more. Generally I wouldn't expect the British public and the media to take much more interest in tennis for anything but Wimbledon. In fact, my worry is once his won Wimbledon, the media and public interest will be even less in future because his finally done the impossible.

I don't know Mark. They may start following Andy to every GS & MS and hype him up to win at all the GS and MS

That surprises me. Don't have the calendar to hand but isn't Beijing/Tokyo just before the Shanghai masters? And isn't valencia just before Paris masters and the tour finals? Hope he won't burn out again like he did against Nalbandian in Paris last year...

If he wins Wimbledon, none of that matters; a) because the whole country will go tennis mad and he'll be knighted
Definitely on the cards! I expect an OBE at the very least come new year

Apparently Murray will not do a parade on top of a bus though because he doesn't want to act as if its his career defining moment, wants to focus on the other Slams straight away. That's the attitude of a potential GOAT

Only 2 possible scenarios for next Monday's rankings now:
If Federer wins the final:
1. Federer 11,220
2. Nadal 10,735
3. Murray 9,450
4. Djokovic 8,150
If Federer loses the final:
1. Nadal 10,735
2. Federer 10,420
3. Murray 9,450
4. Djokovic 8,150
At least Andy has a relatively healthy lead over Djokovic now. Despite the points to come off later in July and early August, he is still within striking distance of the top 2.
