A 0-pointer is when a player is forced to count 0 points from a tournament, usually instead of another tournament.

Thanks - do you mean that even if he played a tournament he wouldn't be allowed to claim the points?  Given how close the rankings are below the top 2-3, I'd have thought it would be important not to lose any points unnecessarily to be sure of remaining in top 8?  As you can see, I've not quite got the hang of this rankings business.

Yes, though in the case we are referring to this wont affect Andy's points from mandatory tournaments.

Thanks Allan.  Yes I see, I'd forgotten that they only count some of the non-mandatory tournaments when working out the rankings.  But I do seem to remember that he suffered a real penalty of some kind a couple of years ago or so when he didn't play a tournament and didn't realise he would pay a penalty.  Perhaps that was a mandatory tournament.

Soderling also got a 0 pointer from withdrawing from Washington and so Murray now only needs 790 points more than Soderling from Toronto/Cinci to be seeded #4 at the USO.

Well I know Soderling has v few points to defend but if Nalbandian could do us the favour of knocking him out and then running out of steam when he faces Andy (assuming Andy makes the QF that is and I'm not counting my chickens etc), this should be do-able. Especially if Andy could do better at Cinci this year.
I know it's all hypotheticals but I had rather resigned myself to him falling to #5 - so there is cause for hope.
