Murray's Ranking

If Ferrer gets there - He deserves it. That guy is a credit to the sport.
Surprised no-ones taken the bait yet.

If Ferrer gets to No. 2 then he won't stay there, not by playing 250's in Acapulco and such like.  He is a solid player but look what happened when he got to the Final of the FO, that was an embarrassment.  Anyway at his age how long is he gonna be able to keep playing loads of tourneys?

Surely if Ferrer goes out today and Andy wins he will stay at no 2.

Of course, but realistically it wouldn't last long. Andy has got to no.2, if he should lose it, and I think it's fairly unlikely, I'm certain he would get back there quickly.

Either way, it isn't an issue yet. If Andy played every match with his ranking in his mind it would be a mistake. He knows he's better off concerning himself with winning, then the ranking will look after itself.

As Ferrer has lost in the quarters surely Andy's ranking is now safe.  Is there someone who can answer this please

Andy has to win this match to have an 800 point cushion before the Olympics points come off.

Looking ahead, of course Andy is also defending 2000 at the USO, so will really need to pick up some good points at the two North American masters (where he is defending 90 points from both).

Well, looks like he's going down to number 3.

Andy will stay #2 even if he loses on Friday. He will drop 750 points on August 5th, but that will still leave him with a minimum of 7330. Ferrer only has 7220. He should be okay until after the US Open, as he only has a total of 180 points to defend in Canada and Cincy.

Winning Wimbledon would help of course. Wink

Ferrer is still in a good position to overtake Andy after the US Open. Andy will need to gain 1270 points on Ferrer between now and after the USO.

But this does also include the points he can gain at the rest of Wimbledon, so 480 into that if he reaches the final and 1280 (basically putting them on a level playing field) if he wins it.

If He wins Wimbledon, who cares where he is in the rankings, he'll be holding two GS titles concurrently!
