Hmmm...I think there is a pretty good chance Andy will be no lower than 4 by the end of the year. Ferrer has a chance of overtaking him but Berdych, Delpo and Fed are a long way back. Can any of them pick up they pick up well over 2000 points by the end of the year. I doubt it to be honest.

1 Nadal, Rafael (ESP)   11,015
2 Djokovic, Novak (SRB)   8,110
3 Murray, Andy (GBR)   5,805
4 Ferrer, David (ESP)   4,900
5 Berdych, Tomas (CZE)   3,470
6 Del Potro, Juan Martin (ARG)   3,365
7 Federer, Roger (SUI)   3,055
8 Wawrinka, Stanislas (SUI)   2,925
9 Gasquet, Richard (FRA)   2,765

Reckon Berdych has a chance if he wins a masters and a few matches at the O2. Ferrer is defending 1000 points in Paris so ....  Hoping Andy stays at  3/4 to help with tournament draws but otherwise not giving it any thought, biger priorities right now, ... other than - loadsa points up for grabs next year!

But for the vast majority of the time its just a niggle like just about every other player in the tour has to put up with.

He won the USO and Wimbledon with it so, yes it was just a niggle. I think part of the reason Andy had the op was so he could take a break from tennis for a while.

Noo way - too risky! And not Andy's style. It was more than a niggle and needed sorting.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

I understand that it's human nature to try rationalising these things, because we hate to admit we were wrong, but there comes a point where it's best to stop digging.   Better to admit you were wrong when the evidence was hazy, than to be wrong twice when the evidence is clear.

What absolute rubbish. You don't need back surgery for a niggle. You have obviously have never experienced the pain you have when the sciatic nerve is trapped. He was working with a specialist back physio and do all he could to manage his disc problem and the grass is more forgiving than the clay or hard court.  You need to be better informed before you come out with such ridiculous statements.

How the hell can you win the USO and Wimbledon if you are injured?? Most professional athletes have some kind of minor physical problem but they play through it. Footballers often play the whole season while supposedly carrying an "injury". Note the inverted commas. Not really an injury, at least not in the traditional sense. If you were truly injured you'd know it.

^ For heaven's sake he's been tanked up with injections and pain killing pills for goodness knows how long.
Stop behaving as if you had some intimate medical knowledge about his back!

Just one question - have you taken part in a sport that you are anxious to win with an injury?  I have and was pumped up on painkillers.  I accomplished but it had to end as the pain was too much.  I did not have the back up team that Andy has.  I only had painkillers.

What are you wittering on about now?
We all know players carry various niggles, but sometimes these niggles
become chronic and a decision has to be made on what to do about it.
Surgery is something that most players want to avoid if they possibly can.
Whats your ******* problem anyway?
Do you think he's making this up?
Having an operation on his back so he can have a break?!
Wouldn't the injury itself have sufficed for this kind of excuse.
its seemed to work for Nadal didnt it?
(if he was actually injured)
For ***** sake!

There's far too much rudeness on this site Members are entitled to express their opinions and then we discuss them we do not try to obliterate them Everybody has something to contribute .

Don't agree with rudeness.    It should be possible to argue a point without it.   However to suggest that Andy, or anyone, would opt for a back op to get a break from tennis is so ridiculous it is almost irrefutable without rudeness.
