Dramatic, costly and unnecessary intervention, rife with difficulties, not to mention risk of disaster is high. Rivers are ancient bodies of water, water has memory. Building bridges is more sensible, less dramatic, and a lot less impertinent - altering the course of the river is presumptuous and arrogant. Just my thoughts though, and I thinking of this both in terms of actual rivers and the metaphors we've been playing with.
Good posting!

Loved that post and completely agree. All sorts of examples where its been done with disastrous consequences. China springs to mind.

Much as I respect Agassi's opinion on all things tennis, he is only surmising that Andy was prioritising DC.    But I like the fact he holds Andy and his skills-set in the highest esteem.  Oh if only some of his 'fans' on this site did the same.  Whistle

You might be surprised how much I agree with that analysis. I'm sure you realised I was playing too.

Not at all surprised (and yes I realised you were playing with the ideas too).

Andy's interview with David Walsh will be published in the Sunday Times tomorrow. The ST has a pay wall so I don't usually post links to their articles.

Andy Murray will drop to No 5 in Monday's new ATP world rankings list after his shock quarter-final defeat by 18-year-old Borna Coric in Dubai this week.

Murray, 27, had replaced Rafael Nadal as world No 3 last Monday, his highest position in the rankings since October 2013.

But Murray will drop back below Nadal and now Kei Nishikori after the Japanese player reached the final of the ATP 500 event in Acapulco on Friday.

ATP TOP FIVE AS IT STANDS

1. Novak Djokovic (SRB)

2. Roger Federer (SUI)

3. Rafael Nadal (ESP) - Buenos Aires SF

4. Kei Nishikori (JPN) - Acapulco F

5. Andy Murray (GBR)
.
Nishikori could go as high as No 3 if he beats David Ferrer in Saturday's final and Nadal fails to win the Argentina Open on the clay of Buenos Aires.

Nadal, the 'King of Clay' who has won nine French Open titles, takes on home hope Carlos Berlocq in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Murray returns to Scotland this week for Great Britain's Davis Cup clash against the USA in Glasgow, which will be the first time he has played on Scottish soil since winning Wimbledon in 2013.

Depending on Nadal's results, Kei Nishikori could rise to No 3 if he defeats David Ferrer in Acapulco

^Thanks FP. Andy obviously did a press day at Queens after the AO because there is another interview due out tomorrow in the Sunday Times by David Walsh - interested to see if that develops things a bit more.

Thank you for posting both these articles, although with the first one from the DM I was more interested in the comments below it than the article itself because it didn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

The second one I found remarkably frank for Andy and at times rather painfully so because in some ways I can empathise with him, although I don't intend to go into the reasons why on here.  I've got a lot of admiration for Amelie not just as a player but because, having known a few gay people, I'm aware of some of the difficulties they face, and I do remember the insults that were hurled at her when she 'came out' during the 1999 AO.

I'd like to read that but don't feel inclined to buy the ST or pay them to read it online, which I suspect is true of some other MWers, so perhaps you could give us a summary of it?

I don't get it either, and my reasons for not handing over money for the online version are pretty much the same as why I won't get Sky. Luckily in this instance (though I am totally mystified as to why) a colleague gets the ST and is going to scan the article to me later today, so I will happily write up a summary.
