Not in the draw for Auckland or Sydney and mentioned in his presser today that Brisbane's highlighted what he needs to work on over the next week before AO so from that I'm thinking this is it before AO.

None of the top guys would play both warm-up weeeks to the AO, only the lower ranked players, and maybe Almagro who seems to play every single bloody week. The top 4 usually play a warm-up tournament two weeks before and take the week off before the Slam to get there and train.

So Brisbane/Doha/Chennai/Hopman Cup before the AO, Rome Masters before RG, Queens/Halle/Boodles before Wimbledon, Cinci before USO.

I think you might consider adding Ferrer to your list of players entering for 2 warm up tournaments so far in 2013  He leads the race tables and is steadily gaining on Andy. He needs watching cos if he were to win the Aussie Open and Andy go out early Ferrer could end up in the no3 position

Nah.  Can't happen. Won't happen.  Ferrer will enjoy being no.4 for a while though.

What's more important is when Andy can get to No.2 - we don't want him in the same side of draws as Djoker too often.  Andy should be No.2 by RG providing he doesn't fail at the Masters events too much.

Ferrer win the Aussie Open? With respect you are having a laugh. I love Ferrer to bits but a major winner he is not. Andy, in my view, is going to be number one by year end, never mind two or three.

Andy Murray - US Open and Wimbledon champion! :)

Andy's got the potential to gain many ranking points in the masters events this year so I expect he'll widen the gap with Ferrer as the year goes on, bar any early exits in the slams.

Rafa won't have anything to defend after Wimbledon so he's the likely threat to Andy's ranking - depends on how long he takes to get back to 100% though.

Ferrer may look good in the Race but in terms of the actual rankings he's gained nothing whatsoever - only the top 6 250/500 (and by that I mean the 250/500's he's won the most points from) events count towards a ranking. Once he's hit his limit he won't be gaining any more points from those small events.

Yes, and Ferrer has a lot of minor championship points to defend throughout the year just to stay still. He took part in 26 or 27 tournaments to get all his points whereas Andy only took part in 20.

According to me, Ferrer is never a major threat for me and I feel is way behind Andy.

Well Andy has preserved his world ranking points from last year (720), anymore from AO is a bonus.
He will be going all out to beat Federer, if he does that will be 1200 points, a net increase of 480 points. And if he were to go on and win the AO (and I hope he does!) that would be 2000 points, a net gain of 1280 points for 9280 total.

Federer will lose 2000 points in Indian Wells and Monte Carlo, assuming he doesn't adjust his schedule. That's a lot of points to make up here, in Miami and the other clay tournaments.

Federer didn't play Monte Carlo last year though he did win Indian Wells.

You're right, I was confusing it with Madrid. Although you'd imagine with the surface back to normal he'll lose points there anyway.

I find it hard to follow the points system, so thanks for the updates guys.
Good to see Andy is bang on track.
