I cannot understand why the Olympic points should not last until the next Olympics. After all the 2000 points Murray got for winning Wimbledon will last until the next time Wimbledon happens The only difference is the former happens every 4 years and Wimbledon every year No tweaking is needed
This would make the Olympic tennis tournament even more important than it already is.
That's not how the ranking system works - it's the points that a player has gained over the last 12 months. If they changed the rules for one tournament, the players would not be happy.

As others have said, I'm not sure why the Olympic title is worth less that a Masters. But the ATP probably have their reasons.

surely notnek that's because every other tournament is played annually so a player has a chance to defend their points each year - but they don't have that chance with the Olympics so I don't see why an exception can't be made on the lines I suggested

It should be looked at like a bonus, an additional score of points outside the 18 scores that currently count towards the running year total. It was listed as a 500 score (although 750 points were awarded), so a 500 tournement score had to be dropped from the tally of a medal winner last year, into the non-countable scores .

I know what you're saying Ruthie, but thinking about it, it wouldn't really be fair for the following 3 years. I'm sure Andy won't need them anyway!

With Andy out, if Rafa goes deep in Montreal and his fitness holds up on the hard courts Andy will be looking at an end of year ranking of 3.

well I'd rather Andy finished end of year at #3 and as Wimbledon champion than at #2 and not.   Andy is who he is and perhaps that means he simply isn't going to have the consistency to be number 1 as he himself has more or less said.  So be it.  He's still brilliant and has achieved more than some of us dared hope.

Just shows that Andy wants Grand Slams not the number 1, as He says.
