No, really, it's not.

If he's seeded 3rd (and everyone gets the results their seedings predict) then he faces Nadal and Djokovic back to back every single time.

If he's seeded 2nd, he has a 50% chance to face Ferrer

In the current situation, being seeded 2nd is a massive advantage.  In fact, the difference between 2 and 3 right now is much more significant than the difference between 1 and 2, who have the same chance of facing Murray.

Sorry but that's nonsense so i fixed it for you.

Let's say Andy was seeded 2 for all 4 slams next year, he has as much chance of drawing Nadal in his semi (50%) as he does of drawing Ferrer in his semi (50%) I'm aware that being seeded 3rd eliminates this possibility, that's not my argument, my argument is that through bad luck he could still conceivably be drawn to face Nadal/Djoko anyway as the number 2 seed, and at the end of the day it's not even worth stressing about.

That's all i'm saying on the matter because i'm frankly bored of the whole subject.

And the draw suddenly looked horribly one sided here with Fed fizzling out. Can't see anyone coming up and being as threatening and consistent as the big 4 were either.

It could happen that he gets the same draw, but it's much less likely to happen, unless they rig it.  Odds are that it would happen just 50% of the time, which makes a big difference over time.  This time around, it's Djokovic who has got Andy in his half, while Rafa has the supposedly easier time of it.  Next time, it might be Rafa, with Djokovic getting the easy ride to the finals.  Both times, Andy gets the hard time.

I agree it's not worth stressing about, and you can't just presume Andy would have got Rafa's draw if seedings had been swapped around, but this is the ranking discussion thread, so we might as well get the information right.

Andy can only be seeded 3 after US Open, no higher no lower. It is all about if Nadal can win and overtake Novak which he will do whoever gets to play in the final.

That's it!

After lastnight's performance Andy will be lucky to stay in the top 5  Specialising in slams and ignoring masters has proved to be a dangerous plan

A bit OTT there. Last night was bad, but Andy does not make a habit of it. He has Asia coming up and he plays well there. He has the WTF too, which he is capable of winning.

I think we need to drop the idea Andy loses Masters on purpose. He doesn't.

In the long term Andy is going nowhere but up. In the short term he needs to focus on results, not ranking points, and also on being fit. I'm not 100% convinced he is at the moment. If he focuses purely on the points then he'll be in trouble. He needs to focus now on the things he can control, which is his performances. If he does that then the points will look after themselves.

Andy will stay at No. 3, but he is down a few thousand points, he needs to really win a few events at the Asian Swing and also maybe Paris. Then just defend his points or get to the final (or maybe even WIN) the Tour Finals.

I think Andy's next real target will be the Aussie Open. Three times runner up, he wants that title.  The Davis Cup matches playing as a team will motivate him. He will give the Aisia swing a good go and pickup some points at the WTF.

That is certainly over the top panicking.  Andy will not allow himself to fall lower.  H didn't stay in the top four for 5 years by totally giving up.  Ferrer will not last much longer as his age catches up and will not be able to play so many tournies.  Berdych is too inconsistent and I feel he would have made it by now.

Personally I am not worrying and neither is my OH>

Man-I don't mean this in an offensive manner, but honestly it's tiring even reading some of the negativity on here-can't imagine how much more tiring it must be to look at things so negatively!

People showing all this negativity should be barred.  They're not contributing anything useful.

On the subject of Rankings let's not all panic but Andy may well drop to No.4 before he rises back to No.3.  Andy has 780 points to defend in Tokyo and Shanghai before Ferrer's 1500 points from Valencia and Paris drop off.  Ferrer didn't go to Asia last year.

Andy needs to start winning again else I fear the press will be referring to the Big 2 from now on. With Fed's demise the big 4 is dead. And if Andy keeps playing like he has been there won't be a big 3 either.
