The back injury will come and go, some days Andy will be fine with it, others he will be in discomfort with it, and others he will be in agony with it.

I would agree that Andy  enjoyed himself and I was pleased to hear him pointing out that it would take a stronger team to stay in the top league for Davis Cup
Whether a would be contender for the no I position in Tennis should be "enjoying himself" after his dismal showing in the US Open, amid constant comments re injury is a matter for debate

Win or lose, Andy works harder than anyone and if anyone 'deserves to enjoy themselves' once in a while, it's him! That's just my opinion of course!

And mine Caz.  Good for him, good for the team .

????? Is Andy meant to be sitting at home in sack cloth and ashes punishing himself cos he didn't win the US open. 126 other players didn't either. He is perfectly entitled to play Davis cup a) because he wants to represent his country b) he enjoys team tennis events c)He felt he was fit enough d) He has to play a certain amount to be eligible for Olympic selection.

Go Andy, here's hoping we get a home tie tomorrow!

Again I apologise for all my sins, too numerous to mention all of them.  I thought my remarks were quite un controversial but I seem to have stirred a hornet's nest of trouble
I merely suggested that DC should be played on hard courts I did not complain about it
I do not expect Andy Murray, after his surely unexpected exit, perhaps dismal was too strong a word for some sensitive folk, to wear sackcloth and cover himself with ashes. I expected him to take some downtime and relaxation and to prepare for the last segment of this season
What I did not expect was that he should participate in 3 matches for Davis Cup which could have meant 15 sets in order to restore GB to the top sector where our
stay can only be temporary unless we produce someone else to share the burden with him
Finally I apologise for not replying to your well thought out comments earlier, a wee matter of earning my living, sleeping and walking my ever patient dog do take up a lot of my time
I am not a sad person as one person describes me I am a busy person who is a fan of Murrays but not fanatical about him

To be fair I also was against Andy playing in Croatia.....but.....if he's come out of uninjured and also rejuvenated then OK.  Still, GB 'holding their own' in the World Group is currently entirely dependent on Andy playing so, for me, it's just going to increase expectations on him to play.  A home draw against Kazakstan will help - or any home draw.  What if Andy has to 'fit in' travelling to USA, Argentina or even Australia next year in an already crowded schedule?

Thanks for your support Mackem. Unfortunately Andy has expressed the wish to make Davis Cup mandatory on all players Should this wish be granted it is to be hoped that the difficulties you so clearly state will have to be considered.

I wonder maybe if Andy would like Davis Cup to be be mandatory only if some other tournaments cease to be.  Maybe players should have more choice - for example, Madrid which has been crowded into an already busy clay season.  Why should the players HAVE to go to Asia?  Why must they play Paris when (for the moment) it's the week before the WTF.  The ATP organisers make some crazy decisions at times.

But for the vast majority of the time its just a niggle like just about every other player in the tour has to put up with.

I had a feeling, reading in between the lines, that Andy was thinking along the lines of players having more choice, maybe not having to play the smaller tournaments and playing DC instead. He has a point, but wouldn't the points for DC have to be worthwhile for the players?

Andy's points will fall to 5805 at year end. Where will this leave him for next season. I think he could still be number 4 or 5. No worse than Rafa after his return. So it will still be semi or quarters before encountering the 'big guns'.
