The mind doubts, but the heart never does.

Something to be said for going out on a high, I suppose. Borg was questioned for retiring when he did, at 26 or thereabouts, but maybe it was the right thing to do

I kn
I know, but there's a real confidence in him at the moment. I've still got fingers and toes crossed for the US Open this year. He needs to get the albatross of not winning a slam off his back.
Could I get any more cliched?
Cliche or not - it's a very relevant comment but there's always next year you know - he's only 22 - age 23 could be his Gram Slam year. Perhaps we'll have a GS to celebrate when we meet in September.

Graf did the same thing ..........
I just can't stand it when the guys look like old beaten up tomcats .... remember Agassi limping along the baseline, chock full of whatever they were injecting into him .......

Its the people who are truly satisfied with their careerss who retire early, cuz they feel they've achieved everything

I disagree, Safin is nowhere near satisfied and he's retiring.
Retiring young can be for a number of reasons, Henin retired young for the reason you indicate but very few others have, with most players it's a combination of injury and subsequent loss of form.
It's more to do with lack of motivation but that can be as much to do with simply being disinterested as well as success.

Yeah but for a while now, no-one's been sure whether he's been coming or going.
Also, I was meaning more for the people who hang on for a long time, like Ferrero or Hewitt, those guys obviously aren't happy with how their careers have gone, so don't want to give it up.

More so with Ferrero who got injured at the absolute peak of his career, just the same as Rios, Kuerten, Magnus Norman and even Greg Rusedski so there is no shame in Ferrero trying to salvage what he can from his career.
Hewitt however has slid down the rankings in a more gradual fashion as players have got used to his game, partly also injuries with him too but he'd already peaked and Federer hadn't before he started getting injured.

I'm not having a go at Ferrero, I really like him and wish him success, but whether he's unhappy with his career due to injury or otherwise, it still back up my theory.
