Rogers Cup R3: Murray vs Gulbis

Quote

H2H is 5-0 to Murray, and the last time they met was in Cincinnati in 2010 where Murray struggled to a 3 set win in blistering heat.

Gulbis, a talented but often erratic player, who is probably better known for offering unsolicited words of wisdom about the 'boring' top four players, did enjoy a good start to the year, going on a 13 match winning streak until he encountered Nadal in Indian Wells, where he was beaten in 3 tight sets.  More recently he has gone out in R2 of the FO to Monfils and R3 at Wimbledon to Verdasco.

It happens sometimes.  I'm quite happy to let mine drop and go along with yours, either that or ask Mark to merge them.

Id say the same pretty much all the way ..until he faces Del Po, Djoko or Nadal. If Andy underperforms he could lose ...if he plays decent tennis by his standards he will win. Whereas when he plays Del Po, Djoko or Nadal only his best tennis will win.

I hope Andy sees off the spoilt little rich boy in straight sets but being prudent I've voted for 3.

Ernie as much as it pains me to say it is very dangerous. Just hope Andy starts well and does a proffesional job on serve, can't be hitting alot of short 2nd serves as they may be punished.

Andy will beat Gulbis easily because he will be up for destroying him.

To be fair though, it all depends on player mindsets when it comes to back to back masters, Andy might feel better off performing in Cincinatti than here, it's unrealistc to win both of them, so here he may just be looking for match practice or it could be the complete opposite and he goes for it, i expect he would be satisfied with a semi spot at the very minimum, although personally i hope he is in it to win it, i'd dearly love him to play Rafa in the final if that becomes a possibility, his semi might be the easiest match here he just needs to get there.

There is of course the bonus for getting most points in the American swing if he wins the USO but money isn't really his motivation so we shall wait and see.

Why? Andy has a 5-0 H2H. And now he has a match behind him he should be fine. Just remember Andy is a two time Grand Slam winner!
