I'm simply being realistic and trying to make the best of a bad job. Murray hasn't got a chance in hell on clay and never has. He knows it,you know it so apparently does Lendl whos jumped ship for this one and quite rightly so. All we can hope is Andy gets out uninjured, which is doubtful.

That was such a pathetic attempt at being realistic doh

Anyway, I'm in to see where this ride will take us, whatever the outcome. Who's with me? All aboard! clapping Oh, 3/4 am ish start for me tomorrow Very Happy

Andy, right now, doesn't stand a chance on clay, I quite agree and he knows it too. So I am kind of not sure what's the main point of your post.

A very realistic point of view would be to have a lower or decent expectations as you can never say never but if Andy makes it to 2nd week, then it's all very good. You do realize that not all fans are the same. Some will have more expectations regardless while others will be more realistic and some will be a bit over the top and downright negative. But the man himself knows what to expect and isn't that what matters the most anyway?
No. He said himself his own idea of exporting his hard court game onto clay is the only way to go. Either he is insane, incredibly stupid, bipolar or just taking the piss. You choose.

A few stats for those still in denial :

never won a clay tournament
never reached a clay final
never beaten a top 8 player on clay..EVER!

my advice? tank this tournament and recover fully to prepare for Wimbledon and the US/ the 2 slams he definitely can win (if he's fully fit)

No, in fact, it's completely doable but it will take some time. Just like Rafa took his clay game onto hard and it worked out for him but not immediately, mind you. He's not crazy. He's a top pro player who trusts in his abilities. He has to and he has his results to speak for himself. From a fan's perspective, it feels impossible crazy even but that’s what fans are all about anyway. Leave it up to the pros.

True he has yet to win a clay title and has yet to make a clay final but he's made three semi-finals playing against top players just last year and that was the groundwork for it, but it also means he’s closing the gap. A player whose game is not solely designed on a surface like clay has to go through the steps, you see. I am sure when Andy's career ends, he'll be left with at least a few titles on clay. Stick around until then.

clap  I have had been extremely negative in the past.  too negative in some cases.  I have learned not to bother anymore however  (the negativity) as it gets you know where.  Of course  RG isn't the best for Andy.  He hasn't has the best preparation.  we have to believe though .  If he makes the 2nd week  I will be very proud of him... the semis maybe   Whistle  ... you never know.

I'm with you Bev, but according to Mike Dickson in today's Daily Mail -

Murray revealed on Sunday that he had a cortisone injection in his back two weeks ago - but insists he is now fully equipped to play his first-round match here against Japan's Tatsuma Ito on Tuesday.
We have to believe ... cmon yeah

He's also never entered a smaller clay event at 500/250 level apart from Barcelona (which usually has a loaded field, including Rafa most years). I dare say that had he entered Acapulco. Bucharest or Estoril he would at least have reached a clay final by now if not won a clay title.

I don't recall him saying that he exports his hard court game onto clay - in fact I've heard several interviews where he's talked about how he has to move differently on clay and be more patient at constructing points.

SB get your facts right before you open your mouth Lendl has not jumped ship, he was in Paris with Andy, went to play in Frankfurt and was due back on Sundayand will be with during RG.

Those were merely standby excuses.
I so look forward to this unwinnable Slam and Andy's struggles on his "favourite surface" . The exotic excuses, the complaints, the school-leaver angst, the misfiring 1st serve, the non existent 2nd. The swearing, the gurning, the excruciating self hatred etched on his face in the hot sun as he nets another drop shot. I love the planning and the strategy and his explanation of it ; about how his hard court game is custom made for clay whilst at the same time everyone else's isn't. Wonderful stuff its all so thrilling.
And of course I make a packet on B*tfair, laying Andy to the hilt before he reaches the 3rd round. At the moment the world no. 4 is 46/1 when it should be 1000/1 to win something he's physically, mentally and technically incapable of ever winning

Two questions:1) why are you here?
                        2) why are you so angry?

Steve... Giving you the benefit of the doubt for now. You're either a hater or an extremely frustrated Murray fan.
If it's the former, then you're on the wrong forum pal... MTF is thataway.
If it's the latter.. welcome to our world..(well.. several of us anyway)... but I ain't giving up on Andy or his ambitions. Not after all these years, my time, money, sadness, and joy.
I'll be tuning in tomorrow to cheer/shout/berate... but still support to the hilt.
I'm ALL IN! clap

Quality clap   Let's hope he takes the message, I cannot wait for Andy to shove it right up all these folks that write him off.  Just gonna take one match at a time at RG given his back issues etc and hope he emerges I jury free and with a bit of form going into Queens and Wimbledon.
