Rome R3: Murray vs Gasquet

Quote

Only caught the last few games of this match. Andy looked tired and sore, but I certainly don't think he had no effort or desire, just too much frustration. I don't always hear his on court swearing, but I definitely did this time and I don't think it was Gasquet, he was calling a "f***ing moron".

His stubborness can be one of his winning qualities, but I still think it's going to make changing his default game style and making the winning aggressive play more instinctual a long term enterprise. The arrival of Lendl isn't going to magically reboot his playing style overnight. I just hope there'll be enough time left in the biological clock for any changes to have the required effect at slams.

All the detractors are always going to be crawling out of the woodwork whenever Andy loses.

If you want a stress free experience being a tennis fan, follow Djokovic/Nadal/Federer or Man City.

I'll be supporting Andy all the way, win or lose.

Do people not realise if Andy does suffer from a back injury, how much it hampers your movement, serve and groundstrokes? That's pretty
much everything. I had a match last night and had a attack of gout in my left foot and I had a mobility of an elephant on the court. Everytime
I try to run down a ball or serve, I was in severe pain. It ain't easy.

Its a shame you only "crawled out the woodwork" and joined the forum under a year ago. We really could have used your startling revelations before then.

Murray is NOT playing with any significant back injury. Get over it and stop making excuses.

Berdych is defending (attacking?) a R1 loss from RG; Murray a flukey semi.

It's a major issue.

Berdych or Tsonga would have to win both Rome and RG to take over from Andy, its not going to happen

imho Andy lost the whole damned thing at the beginning of the 2nd.
His attitude was very negative, and I commented on it at the time.
I love the guy to bits... but I will never understand why he is so bothered by anything extraneous.

Okay.. so maybe the balls weren't on time, the right fluff, whatever....
Or the shadows over the court made it hard to see.
Or the wind was too swirly.
Or that shot didn't go how it was planned.

It's the same for the other guy.

I'll always support Andy, but I'm keepin' it real. If he's still carrying the back injury, he should not have played here. Nor should he be playing the exo at the Paris Country Club.
I think he would have pulled out had he had any concern about the injury.  It still maintain that it's lack of fitness because he wouldn't have been able to train properly in the gym as well as not being able to practise.  10 days is a long time for a player to be so inactive.

The fact of the matter is that we are all talking about Murray defending 4th. I think i speak for all of us when I say that we were all looking for him to make a charge up the rankings and look for 1st or 2nd.

But I'm going to enjoy it whilst I can.

I only enjoy it when its enjoyable.
A less frequent occurance it has to be said, & its getting worse.

You're just as entitled to your opinion as I am. Let's leave it at that. It's free to join the forum here the last time I checked.

I think all of us as fans of Andy need to realize he does not like the clay. His movement today on break points was wayward so he got frustrated and eventually chucked it.

Not what we want to see but if he has a sore back then so be it.

Well said syc23.  Sharing opinions is what forums are for after all.  It would be boring if we all agreed with each other.

If my life were as chaotic as Andy's career it might be time for some "external help".

I do think it's very cool of some people's commitment on the forum to support Andy. wub

One day we will be rewarded. Little tongue man

I'm only a passionate armchair tennis player, but even I know that if I was to play an opponent who started getting into a (predictable) negative funk I'd smell blood, and it would give me a boost to make me believe I was in with a chance.
It goes without saying Andy should be aware of this...
Why would he play with an injury?
Please someone.. throw me a bone to take something positive out of this.
