After sending Team GB into the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup a week ago, Andy returns to the court earlier than expected in Rotterdam, where he received a wildcard early on Friday. In the first round he will face Frenchman Edoaurd Roger-Vasselin who is ranked 38 in the world. Roger-Vasselin has had some past success in 500 events, reaching the semi finals of Basel last year where he lost to No. 1 seed in Rotterdam, Juan Martin Del Potro.

These two have played twice before at the Australian Open and Monte Carlo last year, Murray winning on both occasions pretty comfortably.

Tell you what, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when ERV found out he'd got a wildcard for the first round in Rotterdam. Fancy drawing a wildcard and then finding out it's Andy Smile.

Andy smoothly in two. Bring on the sexy backhand!

Janowicz destroyed ERV in Montpellier. I expect The Technician to do the same in Rotterdam. Nothing but a straight sets win here will be good enough.

^ Andy wiped the floor with ERV on clay last year. He'll be fine.

I don't expect ERV will be too slippery an opponent, although he did beat Wawrinka comfortably in the first round of Basel last year, so hopefully Andy will get the job done in straight sets.  However a Murray wobble can never be discounted in the early stages of a tournament, especially as he's still getting himself back to 100% match fitness.

Anyone know when Andy will be flying over and when he's likely to play his first match?  Don't want him jet-lagged even against ERV.

And as for jokes in the poll, we expect classy ones on MW  Whistle
