From Nole's presser

Andy Murray has challenged Serena to a tennis match in Las Vegas.

Djokovic: "I'll play Sharapova. Anywhere she likes"

Greg Couch ‏@gregcouch
Someone asked Djokovic what threat Serena would pose to Murray. Djok: "Game wise or personality wise?''

Serena on playing Murray: 'I doubt I'd win a point, but that would be fun. I get alleys. He gets no serves. He gets no legs'

Cant believe this is getting legs. Andy said it as a sarcastic response to a troll on twitter. The fact the the Beeb have picked up on it is simply appalling.

The Beeb have picked it up in Andy's column, where he says " I have been challenged by someone on Twitter to taking on Serena Williams. I'd be up for it, why not?
I've never hit with her but she's obviously an incredible player and I think people would be interested to see the men play against the women to see how the styles match up. It's happened in the past with Jimmy Connors and Martina Navratilova. How about Las Vegas as a venue?".

The article is posted on Andy's facebook, so he's obviously fine with it. It's  funny looking at @tomcarswell1 who started all this, as he finds out his tweet has been picked up by the media worldwide. First tweet of the day was  "eh?" in response to "apparently your in daily star about that tweet to murray hahahaha..." Then he discovers he's in the Telegraph, all the Scottish papers, then the BBC etc etc

Seems quite a fun story really - enjoyed Serena's response - and Djoko's

It is remarkable how much the story has grown.  Several of the papers ran with it based just on the tweet - although when you read the articles, it gives context.  It's just the headlines that make it sound like Andy actually challenged her.  Then the column, and Serena's comments, which are all fun, and it's suddenly a massive story.

However, I think the media are making something of this as it conveniently coincides with a documentary out this week called "Battle of the Sexes" about those matches.  It's great promo for it, and a way to get people talking about Wimbledon - as if it wasn't getting enough headlines, lol.  lol

The only danger is that some people are taking the challenge seriously, and it rather proves just how easy it is for stories to appear from nothing, and how people get worked up about snatched comments.  I saw one guy on twitter last night harrassing Andy for saying that he thought playing Serena would be an easy win.  That was Serena's joke.   Andy said the opposite, but people do like to get worked up.

You can say that again sparkle.  It's on the front page of the Guardian today with a story on the inside news pages.  The front page caption would have you think it's likely to happen.  I guess with no major upsets or injuries or spats yesterday they wanted a new story to push.

Waiting for some red top to twist the story to make Andy out as arrogant to the woman's game.

Tim Henman made me laugh yesterday when they were talking about this. He suggested that Andy should be careful, people might start thinking he has a sense of humour soon Smile.

Don't even joke about it.

To be fair I think it's being treated as a bit of fun. Whether the challenge could happen or not really isn't the point to me. The fact that Andy can have a laugh like this during a major suggests to me that he's fairly calm and relaxed at this stage.

yes I smiled at that tj, but the way he said it I fear the Andy-haters will take it as proof Andy doesn't have a sense of humour.  You perhaps had to know he is a friend of Andy's to realise he was joking,

How can an opinion be false?

If it can be proven wrong and the chances are, if they do take it seriously and if they do end up playing a serious set, I am more than sure Serena would win more than just 1 point.

But I know that it was said in jest.

It can't be proven right either but as I said, the chances will most likely to fall in Serena's favour as she's quite powerful and serves really well.

Anyway, enough of this nonsense.

The haters think Andy doesn't have a sense of humour anyway, so I honestly don't think it matters. It was how quick Tim was that made me laugh. Someone has been letting him play in the knife drawer again Wink.

I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

Serena'd be looking for points. She'd need a magnifying glass.

A valid contest is more where you have the older guy, as in 55-y-o Bobby Riggs, who played Billie-Jean King.

So, maybe Johnny Mac v Serena?
