The unorthodox German is Murray's opponent in round two.

Didn't Mayer beat Nadal here last year? He was excellent in that match.

Andy has 1000 points to defend here, so can't really afford a poor showing here.

Murray in 3.

Can't afford an offbeat performance here, Mayer is a dangerous player.

Hi All,

They showed an interview with Andy as part of the coverage today. He looks good and seems very upbeat and positive. It always seems a good sign to me when he looks an interviewer in the eye, and he did.

Mayer could be tricky if Andy is off the boil, but if Andy comes out in the mood I think he'll be too strong for Mayer.

With respect, I don't know how much you can read in to Mayer beating Nadal last year. It is impressive, don't get me wrong, and it does show he has the ability to do it, though maybe not regularly enough to make a huge impact. Nadal often seems to tire at this end of the year though, and I can't really say that I blame him lol.

My prediction, Andy in straights if he comes out firing. Andy in three if he starts a bit slow. No pressure though Andy, you just do your thing.

My apologies if already posted. Andy says "..conditions are completely different here from last week.. the court is much slower and the balls are faster... and it might take a while to get used to that."

Check out his interview:

That defeat to Mayer came just three matches after the trashing by Andy and he then didn't play again until the WTF, where he lost every match if I recall, including a 3&0 thrashing by Federer. He was clearly out of sorts.

Mayer is definitely a good player and it's a bit hard to assess Andy's mental aspect at this point, still I pick Andy to close this in two sets.

Hi guys Smile Sorry I've been absent from the forum for a while.

This was in a way my dream 2nd round match because both players bring a lot of variety to the game. For example they tend to hit an awful lot of drop shots and slices and they rarely just bludgeon the ball. I myself am a tactician on the court and so when I watch my idol, Andy Murray and another tactical player on the court like Florian Mayer OR Bernard Tomic I put it down as a must watch because of the thrilling rallies that will ensue. I think it would be a good test for Murray who looked very perky in the interview which to me suggests good things but I expect it to be two very straight forward sets. Perhaps 6-3 6-2 or 6-4 6-3.

I think Andy intends to set his stall out properly after the defeat in the SF. He cant afford a soft start and that last loss will give him added motiavation.

Suprisingly they have only met once in 2011, its 1 -0 Andy.

'Nuff said, Bev is preparing her unique H2H. I'll leave the details to her.

I'm not delegating work, just to make that clear.  Whistle
