I could understand 'desperate bid' if Andy had been on a bad run. He's lost two matches all year, so 'desperate bid' is more than a bit OTT. It's so OTT it's practically an Oscar acceptance speech.

He must be in despair about the loss, he looked it in his press conference.
Why must he be 'in despair'?  He didn't look it to me - he never looks full of the joys of spring in his immediate post-match press conferences, even when he's won.  Of course he was disappointed, as were we all, but that's different.  Like tj, I think he's taken the loss quite philosophically and will have learned from it and from how he played generally this week.   It's still early days in a long season and he's certainly not going to be anywhere near panic mode, and nor should we be.  Have faith!

No because Federer isn't playing. Rafa is 4 in the world if he wins IW.

Just to confirm.  From the tournie website - "NOTE: Rankings positions are shown as of February 4, the entry deadline for the tournament. (Tournament seedings are based on rankings as of March 18.)"  So therefore in Fed's absence, Andy is No.2 seed.
