The Claycourt Season « on: April 02, 2012, 01:14 AM »

With Monte Carlo 14 days away (9:30 Sky Sports1 HD 16th April) Andy will have to play very well once again to get back to three semi finals and defend two lots of 360 and 720.

There is the bonus this year though of Barcelona being back on the schedule as he missed it last year with the injury sustained in Monte Carlo prior to the Semi Final with Nadal.  Lets hope for some tiki taka, Xavi and Iniesta style Tennis from Murray there.

Only Federer, Fish and Del Potro have decided to take up the option of missing Monte Carlo so it will be quite difficult to retain the points from last year but if he can get a good 2 weeks of practice in then he could hit the ground running and beat good claycourt players like Almagro/Monfils in the quarter finals.

Monte Carlo - Sunday 15th - 22nd April
Barcelona(500)/Bucharest(250) - Monday 23rd - 29th
Madrid Sunday 6th - 13th May
Rome - Sunday 13th - 20th
French Open - Sunday 27th - 10th June

There are 250's in the week between Barcelona and Madrid.  Those are in Belgrade, Munich and Estoril. Nice is the week inbetween Rome and the French Open.

Only a fortnight to go, that's not bad!  Nice little schedule you've got there.

Think Andy should give Madrid a miss.  Altitude not in his favour and only 90 points to defend.  Playing 4 tournies before RG is too much.  Is he down to play Barcelona anyway?

Yup, this has been something that Ive said a couple of times on here now. I think that it's his best chance because the pressure is off somewhat. He played lights out tennis on the red stuff last year.

Is he down to play Barcelona anyway?

According to the ATP website and the Barcelona tournament website he is.  The list of top players playing there are as follows.
Nadal, Murray, Ferrer, Berdych, Tipsarevic, Almagro, Lopez and Nishikori.

I think Andy will pick up at least 1 FO in his career. Lendl was a pretty useful player on the red stuff and won his maiden slam there so who knows...

Only Rafa prevented Andy from contesting all 4 slam finals in 2011 which is incredible if you look back at what Andy achieved. If Andy were to land on Rafa's side in the remaining 3 slams, I would think he would get to at least another slam final this year.

Wouldn't it be Karma for Andy to win on the red dirt and emulate the success his new coach had at RG..........
