true - not a lot of violas around.
clarinet is hell to get a nice sound out of, purely because you have to balance the embeture (no idea how to spell that) so precisely with the amount of breathing or you overblow. also, only about 2 reeds in each box of 10 are decent....and that makes a huge difference......

yeah but i would still rather listen to a bad clarinet player than a bad string player-thers not the scatchiness and stuff.prob the haredst woodwind instrument to get a sound out of though.a friend gave me two lessons on the bassoon.thats what i would love to play if i played anything else.already have voice, violin, pino and organ as well though.hard to keep up the practice

i think squeaky, badly supported clarinet and bad string playing are pretty much on a par to be honest - both ear splitting!! Surprised) also bad brass playing is quite horrendous.....

gotta love percusion - its out of your control - hence why practising the piano is so much fun!!

to a certain extent yes (been having acoustics lectures recently so can explain in scientific detail how most instruments create their sounds so dont get me started) certainly easier to get a satisfying sound out of immediately

thats sooo hard.would really change all the time.def have some shostakovich in there either symphony no 10 or the viola sonata, prob brahms academic festival overture, rachmaninoff symphony no 2,walton viola concerto and something else like mozart or faure requiem or berg violin concerto.poss a contemporary thing like gavin bryars 'jesus blood never failed me yet' and although it sounds really arrogant some of my own compositions i really love.i could make such a big list.how about you?

if you want the links then www.altavista.com is the best search engine cos its got an audio search facility.

I play drumkit at Grade 6 level. I passed my Grade 5 exam last week

I love the drumkit, its the foundation of any band and you are always in demand. The band relies on the drumkit to keep it going

The band sure does rely on the drummer a lot - extremely important.. but guitars and singers are as important. Smile

The closest thing to a orchestra I am in is the Guitar Ensemble at school where we do one song in the schools orchestra concert every year.
