Here the topic for the new - at least we all hope - great performance.
He could play against Janowicz, but polish chose to do a gift to defending champion.

C'mon.

I know nothing about Mayer.  Can some clever soul put up a head to head and can anyone tell us anything they know?

Leo is first and foremost a claycourter, he won't provide much trouble. Maybe even less then Llodra.

Can't do head to head Ruthie and the only thing I know about Mayer is that his birth date is 15.05.1987.    Not much help but interesting.

thanks for that wildster.  Interesting that even though they were born on same day, Mayer turned pro two years earlier than Andy but has played far fewer matches.  Andy said something about him having been injured so perhaps he was out of the game for quite a while at some point?  Thanks for info re him being clay specialist gangsta.  Let's hope for an easy match then though Andy said he is a good player [but of course he says that about everyone].

I seem to remember Andy being drawn to play Mayer last year at one of the tournies, but Mayer withdrew. Trouble is, I can't remember if that was Leonardo Mayer, or Florian, so I'm no help!

I know nothing about Leonardo at all, so it's hard to judge. I suppose the head to head doesn't tell us much either. They've played once, in 2009 in Valencia and Andy dropped a set.

I've looked at the win/loss ratio of the two for the year and gone with that as some sort of guide, not that it really is. I think Andy will be all right with this one.

Strange that they were both born on the same day, but then I suppose a lot of people were  w00t.

Assuming Andy does win this one, someone on the presentation team yesterday said something about Monaco being out I think. I could be wrong, but I'm sure they said that. Is that right? I ask because he is/was potentially Andy's next opponent.

That was Florian and in Shanghai if I recall correctly.
