I'm guessing that Lendl will suggest that Andy do some of these shots, as Berdych can be a bit of a pussy Whistle

I remember seeing that and wondering when Berdy was going to go in to WTA. For God's sake, the ball hit him on the arm. What a great big girl lol.

Just read an article about the match with quotes from Andy in it,and he said this
“Ivan has made a big difference and I have started to understand certain things going into Grand Slams — how to go about my business not just on the court but off it, as well, how to conserve energy and to go into the matches with the right mindset and attitude. Against Cilic I probably wasn’t doing a great job of that but, hopefully, I can do a better job in the next round.
I’m playing better and understanding how best to play the big points in the important matches. But I can’t afford to start against Tomas like I did in this match again — that’s for sure.”
So we do know that he's aware he needs to come out swinging, and hopefully he won't let himself have a start like that again. He also said he'd have a chat to Lendl about "the things that didn’t go so well like  why I started the way I did".

I don't think the first two meetings between Andy and Berdych in 2005 & 6 matter all that much, so I'll take it from 2010 to date where they are more complete and mature as players and perhaps now, they are in their prime. I also think Berdych produced his best in 2010. Anyway, since 2010, they are 3-1 Berdych and 1 all on hard. The 2 other meetings were on clay and clay is not Andy's best surface. In fact, he is least successful there not just against Berdych but overall,so I am not sure how much we should read into that, because it doesn't make a fair comparison between the two.

Anyway, even so, in their recent meeting in Monte Caro on clay, Andy took the 1st set but lost the next two; whereas in Dubai on hard, Andy won in straight. In the 1st set, Andy broke Berdych early and hung on to that break until the end. Served very well too; however, the 2nd set was a bit of a topsy turvy affair as they broke each other several times though Andy broke Berdych first. What Andy did right in that set was he served very well in crucial moments, defended very well always making Berdych to go for one more shot, and finally, he took charge of things at times and dictated the points which paid off massively. So basically that's all there's to it against Berdych. Andy needs to serve very well, defend and return very well and dictate the points as much as possible; in other words, be aggressive when opportunities knock.

Bercych serves big as well but certainly not bigger than Raonic and we all saw how Andy handled that. On top of that, Andy is a far better returner than Federer so he'll force Berdych serve even better and that's a pressure itself. Andy is also the better mover compared to Federer and of course, Berdych. Federer last night played a really retarded match. He had absolutely no gameplan against Berdych and was basically playing fire with fire. And you can't do that against a player like Berdych. He loves that. Federer's nonstop ball bashing was mind boggling at times which caused a lot of errors. It reminded me of his meeting against Nole at last year's AO where he played just as dumb tennis. Andy most undoubtedly will keep the errors in check and will have a much better gameplan and will be far more versatile. He's probably the most intelligent player on court especially if he's also pretty good on that surface, so Berdych will have his hands full. Also, the crowd will be behind Andy I assume, so that will give him extra boost.

On the cautious side, Andy will have to be very careful of his 2nd serve and disguise it as much as possible. I think he's forehand is pretty reliable at this point so I don't want to worry about that. There will be a few misses here and there but that's to be expected. He will also have to make sure that he holds his serve comfortably well and gets out of trouble by making that 1st serve going for him at crucial moments.

So given all that, I give Andy the better percentage to win this - 70-30% Andy. That's keeping in mind that Berdcyh will still give a fight and won't make things easy for Andy but he won't be as deadly as he was last night against Federer.

I didn't get to see much of the match yesterday due to the Americans playing, but all I can say is Andy kept fighting to the end, never gave up.  I have so much respect for him!!

So Andy, go into this match expecting to win and not fearing to lose.  Bring your A game, serve up aces, and just let your racquet do the talking.  Good Luck Andy!!!  Sending lots of good vibes....  cmonandy clapping clapping clapping racquet

Good post Emma Jean and yes, Federer was so so poor.  Andy won't make it so easy and won't make so many UE's

70:30 feels about right to me also, but might still take 4 sets.

Do I detect sarcasm, young man? lol

Of course it's not going to be easy but you will have to put your faith in Andy, the true player that he is and the big occasion, another GS semi at his top favourite event...and also, the overwhelming past of his opponent. The stars are only aligning right now... for him. Smile
