I'm nervous because I know Stan has more belief playing Andy than he does against Federer, Nadal or Djokovic. He knows he can beat him, and knows that he's done it here before.

Looking at their head-to-head, so many of their matches have gone the distance - it's definitely one of Andy's toughest matchups outside the big 4. In a way I'd have preferred Berdych as his ball-bashing game is more predictable.

I think Andy will win, but it might not be easy viewing.
When Stan won against Andy I think we should remember that Andy was ill, it was found that he was suffering from a virus. I remember watching the match and Andy was sweating profusely and couldn't breath, the physio and Dr came on to treat him. So I really don't think that this particular match does not really count as a win.

Great stats Gnome, very well spotted .  This match against Warwinka is where the serious business begins,so it's great that its on early evening in the UK so if it gets tense I can go walk about to steady the nerves Come on Andy it would be great to have you be a two time winner at Flushing Meadow

I remember that and also that in the clay court Andy was 'cooking' his back problem.  From what Wawrinka says in his interview it could be that he is actually not as confident as he sounds.  I think he could be hyping himself up.  Andy always gives all his potential opponents credit and so many of them do not.  I am not  expecting great things from Andy but am glad that he will stay ahead of Ferrer.  I never realised how the ranking points do not show the true ranking, if you see what I mean.  They do not actually tell the real story.

As I have said before the players who have beaten each other are too intelligent to not see that it could be because their opponent is injured or ill.  Hopefully Andy is not injured.  I have not yet seen the match against Istomin except the first two sets so have not seen the 'limping' but I am sire his team will have done their best to right it.

I did see Andy limping, or rather, appear to be limping a bit, after the Istomin match, but he moved pretty well during the match, so I'm trying not to worry. He did say it was cooler compared to some of the conditions he has played in and he was a bit stiff, but he didn't sound unduly anxious about it, so I think that's a good sign. The thing is, everyone knows Andy has a back issue, so to my mind there wouldn't be much to gain from playing it down in New York if Andy believed it would be a problem.

I remember that match against Wawrinka before. That was the first year I had Sky Sport. Andy was clearly not well that day. He had the doctor out twice, which says it all. It was also on Armstrong, which also says it all. You can basically discount anything Andy does on that hateful court. They should stick Nadal or Djokovic out there and see how they like it.

Just as Stan is being hyped somewhat, as good as his form has been at times this year, I do think Andy's form is being somewhat dramatised. Against Leo Mayer it was tough, but it was on Armstrong, so that's kind of par for the course. Andy beat Florian Mayer in straight sets and would have done the same to Istomin but for a few sloppy points in the tie-break. Andy knows he will need to be better from now on, of course, but at least he has been challenged and found a response. Certain others have barely been remotely pushed. That's not a critcism either, the draw goes the way it goes, but not being challenged a bit can sometimes be a problem.

I still honestly think Stan is trying to convince himself and Andy will find more gears today.

I too, must admit I am a little bit nervous about this match tonight.  However, trying to find some positives:-

The title winning Andy Murray is in there somewhere - tonight may be his emergence (physical issues withstandnig)
Their last match at the USO has been erased and no longer counts - AM was injured lol
The last time AM played SW this year - emergence of the back problems - again erase it (the H2H is looking a lot healthier now)
The last time these two met at a GS, AM did not have a certain Mr Lendl in his corner - he can and has made a huge difference.
AM is far more attractive and easier on the eye than SW (petty I know but true).

A fully fit AM and I would have less worries but we just have to put our faith in Andy and Ivan to both get it right.

Would love to see a Murray v Djoko SF - they are always such great match ups and I think Djoko's over confidence is masking his concerns.  Ultimately, my dream would be for a Murray v Kneedal final with a Murray victory - however I am realistic and it is clear that something is not quite right physically with Andy just now so not getting carried away.  I hope, if there is a physical issue, they can patch him up for the rest of the tournament and that he is not put under undue pressure to play for GP in the Davis Cup on the dreaded Clay......

Watched the last set against Histomin and Andy looks 110% fit to me. He was moving like a road-runner on speed.  So no worries on that score.

Im always surprised so many experienced Andy watchers get suckered into thinking he is injured. I was watching a rerun of the final versus Joker last year and I think it was in the 2nd set the commentators were so worried by his body language and constant grabbing of body parts one of them suggested he may not finish the match or words to that effect. He did ok though didn't he?

That's a good point Michelle. Andy definitely wasn't anywhere near 100% that day.

But I think enough of the hardcourt matches have been close enough for Stan to have some confidence going into this one - he's playing a lot better this year too. The key thing in Andy's favour though is that Stan's only been able to win two of those matches.

mp I remember very well that match when Stan was so in Andy's face.  It was when he beat him here at USO on Armstrong.  Andy clearly has very strong memories of that match so hopefully he'll be prepared for those kinds of antics. After all he dealt with JJ's similar in your face stance at Wimbledon very well.   I've still not seen the Istomin match but don't think we should read too much into him limping after it if he was moving well during it.  The only time I've had concerns was in first set against the first Mayer when his fsp was terrible.  But he snapped out of it and played really well for most of match from t-b onwards.
lashurst as it's a 3 sets dubs match before I think there's a good chance it will start on time at 18.30 BST or at least shouldn't be too long after that.

The tennis live scores has it down as 18:30 UK time. Sky yesterday said 17:00 hours UK time.  It's down as starting not before 1:30 US time. I thought we were 7 hours ahead?
