Andy Murray will get his US Open title defence underway on Tuesday August 27 in a first round bout against Frenchman Michael Llodra.
 
The time of the match will be announced at the start of the day along with the order of play for the entire day of US Open action.
 
But the highest seeded players often play at 11am or 7pm local time in New York, which would be 4pm and midnight in the UK.
 
Andy Murray's match against Michael Llodra will not be without its difficulties, the Frenchman has already caused upset against fellow countryman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga this year.
 
Llodra is known for his serve, and his graceful play at the net, but against a robust, fast and powerful figure in the form of Andy Murray, Llodra's tactics might need adjustment.
 
Llodra likes to make his opponents run around the court, but this is a particular strength of the Scot's game.
 
Andy Murray is in the same half of the draw as Novak Djokovic, who he beat in the Wimbledon final this year. The pair could meet in the semi-final of the competition if both players make it that far.

I am often quite critical of USTA for the way they run the open - 3 day round 1,  squashed up end of tournament and Monday finish etc but in their defence they are always very proud of their defending champions and also think they have always liked Andy as he is such an open fan of their event so I don't think they are putting him on Wednesday as a snub . It means they anticipate having him on Friday and Sunday which will be prime time viewing over the labor day holiday weekend. Also they are spreading Fed Rafa Djokovic and Andy to give them big names over first three days. And notice Fed and Rafa share day one billing (granted over day and night session), Djokovic and Andy get their own day each.
the trouble with this theory ww is that labor day is the monday so prime time viewing would mean Andy playing sat and mon, though at present it's not at all clear which day he will be starting it seems.

Anyone know for sure which day Andy starts? I've heard Wednesday but my local radio station are saying he starts tomorrow.  They also said that Andy's face is being put on to Murray mint sweets in honour of his Wimbledon win  lol

Clyde 1 by any chance cos I heard that too? Tomorrow oop is out with no Andy. To be honest when he himself said he didn't expect to play before Wednesday I suspected he'd already been told that.
