Sparkle: 'My only point was that people should be allowed to say they don't like someone who was caught using racist and misogynistic language, without being branded as an obsessive fan looking for excuses to hate someone.  If people want to give him the benefit of the doubt - that's fine.  It supports the point that being one of Andy's opponents is irrelevant to whether or not people like him.  I'm not criticising anyone who likes him, or who doesn't think it's a big deal.  I'm supporting the right for people to have honest opinions.'

I'm with you Sparkle and less of the David Cameron sexist put-down if you please gangsta   Rolling Eyes
Likewise.  I find all sexist and racist players revolting and get an extra-special thrill when they get thrashed.  But I don't revile all Andy's opponents.  I think Rafa is amazing (and that some comments about him on this site are outright libel) and Djoker entertaining.

I agree not good but to be fair the French are less sensitive about this sort of thing than the British for example. It is a common sight to see men standing by the roadside doing the same but without the water bottle!
Maybe - but from the expressions on his team-mates faces they don't look too happy about it.   Also this tie was presumably being televised.  I'd be interested to know which country they were playing and if the tie was being played in France.

Why is everyone mesmerised by Llodra's urinary habits?
Re the scheduling for Monday I reckon that Federer is on the evening slot so people can see him before he gets knocked out of the tournament and announces his retirement.
Nadal is there  on the first day because he has been told by his Medics that his knees will not stand the strain of a 5 set match  and people will want to see him before this happens
Djokovic and Murray are being held back to Tuesday or Wednesday cos you always save the best till last
At least that's what I'm hoping
Brilliant logic!

I can see that Andy might benefit from not having a two day gap. Like Gnome, I have a feeling that last year he had two days in between the second round against Dodig, when he was in gorgeous form, to the third round against Lopez, when, let's just say he could have got it done a wee bit quicker - even if I do make some allowances for Feli playing out of his skin as well - I spent the match wanting to throttle poor Feli!

Fingers crossed it won't rain and that Andy will deal with having to wait a bit to get the first match out of the way. Maybe it will give him longer to prepare and come out fighting from the off.
I think I'd feel a little happier if Andy was playing on Tuesday.  The sooner he gets on court the better.  Just constantly practising doesn't make up for playing a competitive match and this one would seem to be ideal for him to start working his way into the tournament.  Also the way the weather seems to have a habit of messing up the USO is another reason.  There are plans to put a roof on Arthur Ashe and renovate the whole stadium, but all that will be years away.  I didn't realise the whole thing was built on swampland, which is why they'll have to lose several tiers of seating otherwise the added weight of the roof on AA could cause the arena to sink.

Thanks PE.  Maybe the Argentines are quite relaxed about this as well, although I do think he should have shown a bit more respect since I assume there were toilets near at hand.

So Andy relegated to a Wednesday start. Disadvantaged before a ball has been hit. Don't you just love the idiots who organise the US Open.

Less rest, presumably. Arguably Djokovic lost last year because of that.

I am often quite critical of USTA for the way they run the open - 3 day round 1,  squashed up end of tournament and Monday finish etc but in their defence they are always very proud of their defending champions and also think they have always liked Andy as he is such an open fan of their event so I don't think they are putting him on Wednesday as a snub . It means they anticipate having him on Friday and Sunday which will be prime time viewing over the labor day holiday weekend. Also they are spreading Fed Rafa Djokovic and Andy to give them big names over first three days. And notice Fed and Rafa share day one billing (granted over day and night session), Djokovic and Andy get their own day each.

Don't think anyone ever argued it was cause Djokovic had a Wednesday start, it was that his semi on the Saturday was taken off court by the weather so he played Saturday, Sunday, then the Monday final whereas Andy had Sunday off.

Nah, Djokovic is a machine, don't think tiredness is an excuse he can really use considering he had a marathon with Andy at the AO in 2012, and less rest than opponent Nadal, and still won their six hour match.

If anyone is looking for a very good, reliable livestream for the USO, and can afford to shell out £5.99, then subscribe to Eurosport Player - http://www.eurosportplayer.co.uk/   You can cancel the sub once the tournament's over.  Unfortunately the £3.99 sub is only available to those who want a 12 month contract.  I used it last year as well and it saves mucking about trying to find good free livestreams.

Oh - and if you sign up you'll get lovely pics of Andy holding the trophy. Smile

It's easier to just install spotflux and watch the livestreams on the USO website Smile spotflux gives you an American ISP address so you can access the sites livestreams for free.

Wish I'd known that sooner especially as I'm not too struck on the Eurosport comms.  Oh well c'est la vie!
