Anyone know for sure which day Andy starts? I've heard Wednesday but my local radio station are saying he starts tomorrow.  They also said that Andy's face is being put on to Murray mint sweets in honour of his Wimbledon win  lol

People concerned about Andy not starting until Wednesday should remember there's no Super Saturday this year, so Andy won't face the potential prospect of the semi and final back to back.

Djokovic had quite a bit less time on court than Andy last year. His semi, despite being over two days, wasn't that long either. After winning the first set in the wind Ferrer really didn't put up much of a fight. You could argue that given he'd had less court time, and also his record in the hard court slams, it was actually advantage Djokovic. Just as well Andy didn't see it like that Smile.

I thought there was still super saturday tj but that now the players will have a day's rest between it and the final on monday? The danger with Andy starting late is that, if it rains, his SF could get pushed to sunday and so he loses out that way.   Everything crossed for no rain in NY over next 2 weeks.

Andy not set to play until Wednesday night. So in the morning UK time. Prob won't even see this match live.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis/andymurray/10265860/US-Open-2013-Andy-Murray-takes-day-off-in-New-York-to-avoid-fatigue-as-he-prepares-for-title-defence.html

With more than a week’s worth of practice on Arthur Ashe Stadium already under his belt, Murray looked at his late entry to the tournament — he is not expecting to face Michael Llodra until Wednesday night — and decided he did not want to be overcooked by the time his title defence begins.

The scheduling is not ideal, as to successfully retain his title, Murray would probably have to squeeze seven five-set matches into 13 days. Whereas Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer – who both start today – will have an extra two days’ grace......

Andy starting on Wednesday is no different than his Wimbledon schedule, a match then a day of rest.

Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Monday

So i don't see it as an issue, in fact players who usually have 2 days rest sometimes find it difficult to get back into the tournament.

it's only an issue when Andy starts, if it rains and it sounds like it could do.  But weirdly Sky have just said they think Andy could be playing some time tomorrow though everywhere else I've read Wednesday.
Sky also said that only 7 men [I think it was just men]  have defended their title at USO, which really brings home what Andy is up against.

I honestly think they've done away with Super Saturday Ruthie, but I could be wrong.

Fingers crossed for decent weather for Andy. I'll put a good word in with the Big Man up above. You never know, it might help Smile.

Why does the USO take three days to get through the first round, unlike Wimbledon, which does it in two?  Don't they have enough outside courts or something?

I'm sticking to my theory that they make it up as they go along!

By the way, on a different subject, could someone please ask the comms not to use the words 'throw' and 'up' just now, especially together? I haven't today, but my stomach objects rather dramatically when they use those words!
