Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Andy can win a clay tournament for sure. Maybe RG, I would not rule it out personally. His forehand has improved so much and that could make a huge difference. I get the impression he is very focused on doing well on clay this year.
Hi Moozza
Welcome to MW!
Thank you for getting this thread back on track as well. Andy and psychology has already been argued to death on this forum, but that was when it was clear he was having problems coming to terms with his losses, first to Federer and then Djokovic in the AO final. Things have moved on quite a bit since then.
To answer your post - I think the first thing Andy has to do is to get Nadal out of his head, assuming Nadal's knee has stopped troubling him come the clay-court season, although whether he might have already done so remains to be seen, and that will only be when they meet for the first time on clay, although I do think Nadal could be feeling vulnerable until he fully gets his old form and confidence back.
However, even if Nadal doesn't make a successful comeback, I'd be surprised if Andy won RG, but I definitely wouldn't rule him out of winning one of the three Masters. I think RG could be just a step too far this year.

A favourable draw could do a lot for Andy at the French open, if it opens up like it did at the AO or in fact like it did in 2011 when he got to the semis (I think he only met one seed which was Troicki in the 4th round) it is possible.
He's not favourite by any means and a true clay court specialist will trouble him of course, but if he gets to the semis then there is every chance, and if it is against the other 3 here is the H2H
Djokovic is 2-0 on clay
Nadal is 4-0 on clay
He has never met Federer on clay which would be the most intriguing of the 3 as arguably Fed is the better clay court player than Andy but with his recent form suggests it could be tight.
If there was a time to play Nadal then this year would be it, assuming of course he even gets to the semi and they could even meet in the quarters.
Ferrer would be difficult on clay but i would still give that match up 50-50 on clay, i think Andy's back was too problematic in 2012 for him to play at his uppermost best and still managed to take a set, which leaves Djokovic.
Djokovic is the real stumbling block of course but then that is the case on all surfaces, as it is clay i would lean towards Nole.
So my perfect draw for the RG would be for Andy to be in Fed's side with Fed vs Nadal in the quarters and playing 5 long sets where Nadal wins narrowly but taxes his knee sufficiently for it to become a burden in the semis with Andy
the final, well if Andy does get there we can only hope for either an inspired Andy or a shock exit for Nole in a previous round.

Nadal won't be fit enough to get anywhere near the quarter finals.

Murray did nearly beat Djokovic on clay a few years ago, before choking serving for the match.

I don't know about Andy choking. I know who I would like to choke! I'm absolutely fed up with certain people always having Andy choking. Just as well you are in Sussex and I'm in the West country!

I hate when commentators say this - or worse, newsreaders. There is an unfair asssumption that a match is won once all a player (ahem, all) has to do is serve it out, it's still a game to be won like all the ones that went before, and the player who is behind still has a chance to win that game. Maybe if the server sends down 4 double faults .. Credit to the receiver for keeping on fighting. (they are quick to turn it round and refer to the magnificent fight back - which is often is - if it suits them).Even more annoying are the comments/headlines about players 'losing despite holding match point' but failing to point out that the match point was on the other player's serve and they fired an ace. Always feel it is an unfair reflection of a match. Hmm maybe should chuck this in room 101!

Sticking my nose in just to say that if you need any help with that I'm all too willing to oblige. I'm fed up with certain people posting just to make sarcastic remarks.

I think we can safely say that he got slightly tight while serving for the match. Same happened at the AO against Federer. It happens to all of them – even Federer. It depends on the bigness of the outcome and pressure, of course.

I'm referring to the continual Andy choked if he loses. This doesn't happen if other players loose eg Nadal last week!!!!!

While Zeballos played really well and showed no sign of mental breakdown, Rafa did get tight at 4-5 when he ended up losing all 3 points giving Zeballos a 0-40 lead!
It happens to all of them.
You are right, some people are bit too hung up on Andy losing and contributing everything to choking whilst it's not the case each time
