Will Davydenko overtake Murray this year? « on: January 09, 2010, 07:13 PM »

I think there is a possibility he could especially with his form right now he is beating Fed and Nadal for fun atm. If Murray has a poor AO, and struggles to defend his IW and Miami points Davy could be in there.

I obviously hope not, Im desperate for Muray to win a slam but right now I think its important for him just to make the SFs just to show he is still a contender. I can see Davy causing some upsets this AO, I think he makes SFs at least.

Donkey doesn't have many points to defend in the early part of the season as he was injured this time last year, so yeah - there's a definite chance of Donkey overtaking him.

Possibly. Federer looks unmotivated and Nadal was been in poor form for a while.

Tbh, Davydenko has played very well when the likes of Nadal/Federer have already won a lot/are knackered/can't be assed.

It remains to be seen if Davydenko can raise his game in 5 setters. He has a chance at the AO, he is a sheer machine so the heat shouldn't affect his puny white body haha.

 yay  yay  yay  yay

Thank you, netcord!!!

Davy is my second favourite player, at the moment! First beating Fed in the ATP Finals, then beating Potty at the Finals; beating Fed again yesterday and now Nadal today! Woohoo! Good tennis news at last!  w00t

Although, if he does overtake Andy............no, he'll still be my second favourite player! roflmao

More useful than Fed's been, lately Rolling Eyes Time was, you could rely on Fed to win the matches you needed him to win, but lately he's been winning the matches I wanted him to lose, and losing the matches I wanted him to win!

But to be fair, this is 'classic' Davydenko really, just plodding along, not getting much recognition but slowly racking up the titles, I didn't watch the match, bit is he radically different to how he is normally?

He may do at some point, but I'd expect Murray to be ahead comfortably at year-end.

Davydenko is a fantastic player, I'd love to see him win a slam.

Classic Davydenko was picking up small titles no one gave a damn about then losing to anyone with any quality, since the US Open all his title wins are stacked full of victories against high quality opposition.

Davydenko is playing great, but i dont see it happening, not unless Murray gets injured and cant play during the two events in IW and Miami.

Murrays Points for next few months

Australian Open: 180 Points to defend (last 16 last year)
Rotterdam 500: 500 (Not playing this year) (Won last year)
Marseille 250: No points to defend
Dubai 500: 90 Points to defend (Will more than likely play - quarters last year)
Indian Wells: 600 Points to defend (Final last year)
Miami 1000: 1000 Points to defend (Won last year)

Good posting bhill.  So Andy is defending around 2370 points over the next 2 months or so which is quite a lot.  This year, I don't really mind if Andy doesn't do so well in the MS and ATP events if he focuses his energy on excelling at the GSs (meaning SF or beyond).

He has proven himself at the MS and ATP levels over the last 2 years so this is the year for Andy to break through at the GS level I feel.

Me too, I also think ranking is less important also. It has to be about peaking for slams this year.
