The BBC say DP is only out for 4 weeks and should make his comeback at Indian Wells, it also says that Andy has decided not to play in Monte Carlo either.
I think not playing MC is a dumb decision. He's defendig a semi-final there and he isn't guaranteed a shitload of matches on the dirt before RG, what with his poor results in the past.

Not dumb if he doesn't care about rankings anymore and he feels confident he'll get enough practice on clay before RG.

Not dumb if he doesn't care about rankings anymore, which I don't think he does.
He has a genuine chance at RG if preparation is right for him.
And two tournaments is enough preparation? He lost in the first round of a clay MS last season. He can't rely on getting a lot of matches from 2 tournaments. And he's number 3 in the world. Of course he cares about rankings, unless you think that he has no interest in becoming number 1 in the world?

I think he's solely focused on Slams now and is happy to sacrifice his ranking, that's the feeling I get after reading/watching interviews with him. If I was in his position, I'd be thinking the same thing as well. His new relaxed schedule also seems to suggest this is how he feels.
Is two tournaments enough? Well maybe he's going into this optimistic of getting further into the tournaments. It's a risk but I wouldn't call it dumb.

I highly doubt andy murray would win the RG slam anyway, out of all the slams he might win, i wouldn't put money on that one. I really don't mind if he drops out of a clay tournment at all and doesn't do as well as last year at RG. More time to practise for wimbledon really isn't it?

Roger won it last year so I think it's up for grabs, before last year I wouldn't dream of thinking that Andy had a chance.

Of course he cares about the rankings. He wants to get to number 1 in the world. How can you possibly think that he's abandoned that ambition, particularly when he's so close? You're making wild assumptions based on a few interviews and completely abandoning common sense.

James, said all I wanted to say on that... that's what I think. Slams first, then he might care about being no-1 as a further achievement, although that would probably come naturally once he's at the level of winning Slams.

Yes, but I've already explained why playing just 2 CC tournaments is poor preparation for winning a slam. He can't guarantee himself a lot of matches.

I accept your point of view and I've already explained mine by saying I think he's probably feeling optimistic about getting deep this time around and therefore he is taking a risk that will either pay off or not. Simples.

Makes no sense at all. Even Federer cares about the number 1 ranking and he has been there and done that.

OK, we'll just disagree as usual. I offer you a rose to show my peaceful intentions... might be misinterpreted though if you're into that sort of thing.

That's a bit contradictory isn't it, he won't play this tournament because he feels he should rest, but he's willing to play three weeks on the trot? He must be expecting to do badly...

So he's going to play a 500 instead of a 1000? Jeez. Also, what Emma said.
