Wimbledon R3: Andy Murray vs. Tommy Robredo

Quote

Nadal does a lot of junkballing, literally spinning everything in. Not going for much, just forcing errors from Andy.
Thanks Gangsta.

Just said that they are opening the roof.

Aileen, where's your Rescue Remedy? Very Happy
Erm ... I really must get some!!  Keep meaning to do it but forget until it's too late!

Glad they're opening the roof though.  Watching play under it is a bit weird.

You know what that's a good idea think I've got some in the bathroom cupboard. Lol.

I don't see why the roof closed should be an issue - after all Andy has played under it before so he knows what conditions to expect.  That said I'm a tad nervous about this match!

Closed roof makes him a bit more nervous because the noise becomes louder and he finds himself a bit distracted, as a result he's unable to focus as much. Shouldn't be an issue after a few games as it will allow him to adjust it. I am basically saying it may cause a slow start.

Slow starts from Andy are nothing new anyway!

Glad to know that Laura won her match so comfortably.  Well done Laura!

Yeah clay courters dont do as well on grass becoz ...clay is a skill leveller and grass is the polar opposite. The thing with Robredo , for me, he is 31 and has reached no5 in the world before. He can play a bit....and he has nothing to lose...He will come out swinging.

That said ive predicted Andy in 3 ....just a bit of caution bout this one tho.

Centre court, Andy, the crowd support for Andy, all can make him very nervous. He's done very well on clay this year especially at RG, but that's still clay and he'd played mostly against players of his caliber. He did not play a top player like Andy on grass so it's a whole different scenario for him. We'll find out I guess. He's a great competitor I'll give him that but how much can he display of that on his weakest surface like grass, that still remains to be seen. As to Andy, perhaps Robredo's competitive side will bring out the best in him. Andy loves playing on grass and especially at Wimbledon. It's ideal scenario for him. The contrast is significant.

I still think a bit of a test won't hurt Andy one bit. It will keep him sharp.

Robredo has been top five, so he can clearly play, but so can Andy, just a wee bit.

I don't think the roof, if it is closed (they are opening it for JJ/Almagro) will come in to play that much. The crowd being amplified should be good for Andy and remind him of other times when the crowds have been loud for him, i.e. the Olympics.

Not at Wimbledon as much. He typically stays more focused here.

Cute interview with Andy this morning.  He was asked 13 questions and he answered 8 of them right....  how many aces has he hit in his career, he answered 4000 and the answer was 3639 I think.  Asked how long it took to open the roof with out the air conditioning and he answered 12 and the answer was 8-10 minutes.
