After stamping his authority to open the tournament as defending champion on Centre Court with a 6-1 6-4 7-5 win over Belgian David Goffin, Andy Murray next comes up against another up and coming player, who unlike Goffin has sneakily progressed his way up the rankings, at which he currently stands at 92 in the world, a Slovenian by the name of Blaz Rola. Rola has had a good 2014 so far, winning the Challengers title in Guangzhou and qualifying for his very first Grand Slam in Melbourne, where he reached the second round, losing to Martin Klizan in four tight sets. He has also reached the final of another two Challengers in Panama City and Sao Paulo, losing to Pere Riba and Rogerio Dutra Silva respectively. He also made his debut in the Davis Cup for Slovenia, where he won his only rubber against Dudi Sela in April. While he has not progressed past the second round at any ATP level event, he has proved to be a talented player and one to look for in the future, and this is not the first time he has faced a Brit in a Slam, he faced James Ward in the third qualifying match of the French Open, where he lost easily, then facing Ward again at Queens in the first round and losing again. Rola beat Spaniard Pablo Andujar in straight sets in the first round.
This will be the first meeting between the two. The match will take place on Wednesday.
