Heh, interesting. I haven't looked at the stats - this is based on what I saw. Could be wrong of course.

Mmmm stats - what where you saying? Don't always give you what you want no

Anyway, you've been to Wimbledon.  A terriffic experience for anyone!  I would love to go, just to walk/sit on Henman Hill.

Hopefully the press wont be unkind to him. After all it was them, not Andy who created all the hype. I dont actually recall him ever saying he would win only that he had a chance and surely everyone at this level feels they have a chance or why bother. It is at these times that Andy need our support more than ever as all the knockers come creeping out of the woodwork.

He said he had to play great tennis to win the title.

He did not play great tennis for long spells today, sadly. Frown

Yeah, the experience and atmosphere were great.

That's the bit to remember.

I watched England (cricket) in Hamilton twice last year - they lost on both ocassions but it was a fabulous atmosphere and I remember that (and the glorious weather), oh and Ryan's hat-trick, over any loss! yes

All this talk of Murray in 3 and looking ahead to potential ranking implications of winning the final is making me nervous!  While Murray is rightly the favourite to win tomorrow, I don't think it is as clear cut as the poll or the comments on this thread suggest.  Roddick has won a grand slam, been in 3 other grand slam finals and 5 grand slams semi finals, including this year's Australian Open and won a total of 27 ATP titles (albeit that the last few years have not been his best).

His form this year, however, has been a lot more impressive than has been the case over the last few years - semi finalist in Melbourne, 4th round at Roland Garros, won Memphis, runner up at Doha and semi-finalist at Indian Wells.  He has arguably the best serve in the men's game, a very dangerous forehand and his backhand - normally his weakness - is firing a lot better than expected.

I think tomorrow's match will be a real battle and Murray will have to be at his very best throughout to get through it.  This is definitely a real danger match and one where Andy will need to be totally focused and not lose his concentration to ensure he comes through.

Don't get me wrong - I believe and hope he can do it.  I just think we should take a leaf out of his book and take it one game at a time.

Here's hoping we're all salivating about Murray playing in his second grand slam final in about 18 hours time!!

I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to do this, but it just proves my point - its simply naive to right off a player ranked 6 in the world who is in the form of his life.

Our Andy didn't do a hell of a lot wrong today and a few points the other way in both tie breaks and the result could have been different.

In saying that, Roddick played the game of his life - serving close to 80% for 4 sets in a grand slam semi-final is some going.

Murray will clearly be hurting badly from this for quite a while but just life he did after Wimbledon last year, he has to lick his wounds, assess where he can improve and work hard to step it up again to a new level for the hard court season (his best surface).

If we were offered the 12 months of results he's had at the end of Wimbledon last year, we'd have grabbed it with both hands.

Chin up Andy - it's been a phenomenal year and the graph is only going one way.  Take a well earned rest for 10 days and then back into the groove for the US hardcourts.

Plenty of time between now and Montreal to work on first serve percentage and to up the pace on the second serve.

Stats are not too scary - the only glaring issues are the first serve percentage and second serve speed. Am amused that Muzz out-aced Roddick! lmao

Exactly - 2 areas to work on now once he gets over this.

Imagine how tough Murray would be to beat on the hardcourts (or any courts) if he could consistently serve at close to 70% and get the 2nd serve speed up another 10 mph!

Reasons To Be Cheerful

1. I can genuinely be happy for Fed when he breaks Pete's GS record on Sunday
2. Andy Roddick is back. Haven't seen him play that well for ages
3. All the Murray critics and tennis knownothings can gloat and crow to their hearts content, safe in the fact that he'll never amount to anything and is just a miserable Scottish overhyped git.
4. We wont have to suffer the Queen looking as if she'd rather be anywhere else than on centre court, on Sunday.
5. The American Hard Court Season (my favourite tournaments) start in a couple of weeks.
6. Rafa should be back in Cinni.
7.Andy Murray is 22 and hasn't reached his physical peak yet (according to Boris and Pete Fleming)
8. I have a large bottle of brandy in my cabinet and I'm going to get sloshed when Sree has been evicted from BB.
9. As above, but I also have a very large fresh cream cake to nibble on between swigs
10. I wont be buying a paper for a few days so I'll save money.

And now I'm off to get drunk. *hic* and drown out how completely gutted I am. Smile

Same here, the tournaments are much better in their staging and I love the late-night schedules due to the time difference. Also love the late-season indoor swing.

I see that Andy has said it would be 'pathetic' to let today's result affect him in his next tourney - good to hear, let's hope he can make the breakthrough in New York! cmon yeah

I think you're right. There's no need to be negative about what happened in the past couple of weeks. I think Andy played a fantastic tournament and we all should be proud and positive about it. It's not Andy's fault that this country hasn't seen a Wimbledon champion for 71 years! He is doing very well, he is No. 3 in the world and deservedly so, and just lost to the better player on the day. It's as easy as that.  I am sure proud of you Andy!! Well done!
